Apologies if this has been noted anywhere but I suffered a frozen box last night.

Here was the scenario:[LIST][*]Box in standby, recording BBC2 and BBC Four[*]I turned box on and it displayed BBC Two but I was unable to change channels, etc. It was completely hung[*]I waited until the current programs had ended and turned the box off then on again[*]Box was normal after reboot but it did want to add/remove new channels[*]Programs I'd recorded did record fine but showed as damaged (watched both without issue)[/LIST]Now, my hypothesis is that it was the new channel dialog that caused my box to hang as it was already recording two channels.

Perhaps this is not the case but I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has seen this?

Again, apologies if it's already a known issue.

AFAIK the retune dialog only appears if the box is manually booted and there is no recording taking place so it's not likely to be the reason

Maybe it wasn't that then, just seemed to be a coincidence that the box was locked and that dialog popped up after rebooting it.

Could you get the guide?
I wouldn't expect it to let you change channels if both tuners were busy recording.
Switch it off and on again and it's not recording.

Nothing would work, no commands were being responded to but BBC Four (or Two, can't recall actually but it was ont of the ones being recorded) was displaying fine.

You can change to specific channels whilst recording two. You can't get the guide though as you need a tuner. Pressing schedule and then red will display the buffered guide with non available channels greyed out. EG recording 108 BBC HD and 951 BBC CI at the same time will let you watch any other channels if you have 2 connections and just 954 BBC 1 East if you only have 1.

Surely using channel up/down should do something. It wasn't even cycling through channels that were accessible.

I've got both tuners connected BTW.

Yes, Up/Down will cycle through the available channels (even if only the two you are recording are available).

Your box was frozen, but why?

OK, so it was frozen so the question is was it caused by it trying to do a channel update when it was turned on, whilst recording 2 channels or was it just a boring old crash

I must say, this is only my 3rd hanging of the box in almost a year, to put this in perspective.

Try this which should work on any postcode.

Start recording 106 and then 113, up should give you 117 and down 105. At least you know it's working as it should now

Tell you what, I'll schedule Railway Walks (BBC2) and World New Today (BBC4) at 19:00 and then turn the box "on" at 19:15 and see what happens.

rent-a-nuke I've had this happen twice recently... This is a long shot you weren't recording Hairy Bikers on BBC2 by any chance????

No, it was Victorian Farm thing and Tales from the Green Valley.

That worked fine, as expected I could change to some but not all channels.

That leaves a randon lockup or a bug to do with channel update process.

Yesterday (30th Sept), about 18:40, tuned to BBC1, reading text, pressed back to return to text menu, please wait showing on screen, box froze. Needed a power down and reboot; connected incident? No cause apparent to me, no recording taking place. The programme reservations including a 'watch' one at 18:50 still in place.
