I think Orange are an inhumane company as I have begged and begged to change my tarrif, as I was miss-sold, with too many minutes (always have 1,000 minutes left over every month but always use up my 200 texts) andI end up paying moremy average phone bill is £53.00 a month when I was quoted £35.00

I lost my business, and still Orange would not help me by changing the tarrif to something I could afford, I have recently been diagnosed with Cancer, and still Orange refuse to help.

When I told them I was struggling with the Recession the guy on the other line told me that Orange was struggling too! But I bet orange doesn't have to live on £79.00 per week (statutory sick pay), which is what I am living on now.

I managed to pay half my bill last month but I still owe £29.00 which I haven't got I am just waiting for them to cut me off, and that is going to worry my friends and family witless. But I have phoned and phoned them but they just dont care!

I think they are EVIL.

Evil? In-humane? I'm no fan of Orange but I feel you are going way overboard.

You signed a contract, I know it no longer suits your circumstances but that is a commitment you made.

You don't have a leg to stand on, unless you are saying that the number of minutes/texts were misrepresented. In which case why did you leave it so long before questioning it?

Your circumstances sound tough, but you won't make them any better by insulting Orange, in fact it reflects badly on you. What you should do, is talk to a debt counsellor who can help with Orange and the other people you owe money to. Contact Citizen's Advice Bureau for details.

Hopefully, things will look up for you soon.

maybe write a letter to orange head office and see if theyll help out due to your circumstances.

prking is correct though in that you have signed a legal contract.

as said hope things get better for you

The only thing you can do is make sure that you keep within your text/mins limits, which will keep the bill to the lowest amount it can be. I'm sure that if you'd known you were going to on the sick, you'd have not signed the contract? Orange didn't make you sign it, it's just one of those things.
If they cut you off, just get an Orange pay and go SIM, pop it in and then your friends and family won't need to worry about you - they'll be able to call you.

I had a similar problem with orange a couple of years ago, I rang them to change my tariff and they said yeah they will but they didn't which ended up with me having a bill over 100 quid that month. I rang again and they said sorry theyll refund my money and change tariff but still they didn't!.

This happened about 4 times! I finally went into an orange shop near where i live and explained everything to the manager. He then rang orange and tried sorting everything out, they kept redirecting him to someone else and he actually told them off aswell and finally sorted it out for me.

So if you haven't already, go to an orange shop or ask someone to go for you and hopefully they will sort everything out for you. Good luck with everything, hope you get better soon.

Regardless of the network you agree to have a contract with, you'd have agreed to a set of Terms and Conditions, and every network has a "Migration Policy" which states when you can downgrade your plan and by how much.

The contract was agreed at a set price, and the network is not obliged to change your plan down AT ALL.

So, substitute Orange with T-Mobile/O2/Three/Virgin/Vodafone in this instance.

Orange are not evil. They are a business. Would you expect a bank to write off a loan as you couldn't afford it any more?

No.

I rest my case.

Yes there is but there is what is known as a migration period. Basically you are not allowed to reduce your tarrif within the first half of your minimum term (ie the first 9 months on an 18 month contract) but you can move to a plan of equal or higher value at any time.

OP, how long have you had the contract and what is its term?

as said above you can typically change down after X months or if your within 28 days (guessing your not) you can return it and cancel it in a 'cool down period'.

good luck in getting it sorted but as said, you did sign the contract so may find it hard/impossible to get out of!

As a short term measure, I would suggest you send less text messages so that you remain within the £35? May seem like stating the obvious, but if you can't afford to send more than 200 texts per month - then don't!

That said, I'm kind of surprised they aren't letting you change to a different tariff that is still £35 but instead gives more texts and less minutes - normally it's only if you want to move to a lower tariff that they will have a problem. The thing to remember when dealing with call centre staff is that they are more likely to be willing to help if you remain civil and reasonable and don't start getting aggravated.

Unfortunately losing your business is not a reason for you to be let off your contract, or to have it reduced. When you sign up for a contract, that's what you've signed up for. Orange subsidised your phone when you got it because you agreed to pay them at least £35 / month. The best you can probably hope for is to be moved to a different £35 tariff that better suits your usage (for example Dolphin 35).

Id be interested in why you believe you were missold to? Seems to be a term commonly used now because its in fashion to say so. What exactly happened when you took the contract that makes you believe this?

To all the helpful supportive folks thank you.

Yes obviously it would make sense to stick to 200 texts a month but as my friends keep constantly texting about my health. So its very difficult not to reply.

Well as I was a Limited Company when I signed the contract, I have decided to "knock" it.

So PR King, as you think I am probably a total loser, ha, ha.
I am probably contributing to recession, but I don't give a SH&T.

And to all those other people who have not been hurt by the recession, show some humanity to those who have!!

May seem a bit obvious, but why not call them when they text you. After all you've got 1000 free mins to use up.

Thanks noonesin, but most of them work and can't take calls, anyway the problem is solved now, as I am not just not gonna pay Orange any more money (just got a bill thru for £65) and am gonna get a PAYG sim...with unlimited free texts!

Cheers

I did not call you a loser, please don't put words in my mouth. In fact, I gave you good advice about sorting out your finances, they can help you deal with Orange. Shame on you for turning it into a joke and swearing.

I said "think" PR King, so I did not put words in your mouth. I do not feel your post was that supportive or even caring sand please dont go on this forum if you are offended by words like "SH*T" To be honest, do you really think I am a stage in my life with a possibly terminal disease that I really care about my credit rating?

Ummm - that isn't solving the problem!

Orange will be well within their rights to start the process of chasing you for that money through debt collection agencies if you simply refuse to pay it. And it won't just be the most recent £65 bill either - it will be £35 for each remaining month of your contract, and beyond if you don't cancel it. Whether you are using that SIM or not is completely irrelevent - you have entered into a contract with Orange for them to provide you with a cellular phone service. They are keeping up their end of that contract - just because you choose not to use that service (and instead are using a PAYG) doesn't mean you no longer have any obligation to pay them!

Have you actually asked them to change you to Dolphin 35? As far as I can tell you have only asked them to reduce your tariff - which they aren't going to do. At least by changing to Dolphin 35 you will likely stay within the £35 per month. You may even be able to do this yourself using their website.

I have begged them three times... Simon, but the contract was taken out in my Limited Company name so I will not be personally liable for the debt... My company is registered at my accountant address. Dolphin doesn't apply as I am business user. To be honest they are quite stupid as if they just increased my texts, I could afford it... but as they categorically refuse to help me, I say tough!

Also I am not really worried about my credit rating... I have rather more pressing things to worry about like surgery etc.. but thanks for concern and the positive post.

Evil?
I dont think so....
I've been with Orange a long time. I just got off the phone from them, sorted out an upgrade, from a pearl to a curve, didn't increase my tariff, got an extra 200 texts for free, got the £15 one off charge discounted and will have the phone delivered on Tuesday to my work.
I got offered insurance, but no hard sell.

Any time I have had to speak to Customer Service staff they have been more than helpful.
I have fond however that staff in the stores arent quite so helpful.

Ah hadn't realised it was in your company's name - guess that changes things quite a bit. Hope your surgery goes well. Not sure if that last bit of your post was supposed to be sarcastic or not but I wasn't trying to get you down - just offering advice!
