Blackberry phones are great. I'd get an iphone but I just can't warm to texting on a touch screen and I have an Ipod Touch so kind of get a great phone in the blackberry with the ipod and apps and everything with the touch

I take your point about not needing to play lightsabres but having looked at my son's iPhone I'm more interested in whether other, less expensive phones are as user-friendly. For example he uses his iPhone to navigate whilst walking around London. Are other phones as easy to use if you're trying to find the nearest tube or whatever?
Conversely, he finds using the web browser awkward at times. Are other, cheaper, phones better equipped for doing things like ordering from Amazon or checking your bank balance? And are there good value tariffs available for these phones? I still think it's worth considering a separate iPhone Touch if the total price is a lot lower than an iPhone because I need at least 32GB for my music. 1) Tube map and London travel. I go up to London quite a bit so have great need for these, but I always have a handy paper map with me. Now, I could use this or, indeed, see what the alternatives offer. End of the day, is something like this something I am willing to pay a premium amount for considering I have easy alternatives? 2) Ordering from Amazon/bank account. I've got a laptop for doing this, and I can't see there being many occasions when I am out and about and think 'I must order from Amazon' and, for bank account details, I can always visit a nearby cashpoint and look if I'm not at home. I've survived this long without those facilities, I'm sure I can again. I'm not anti-Apple or anything like that, I have a video I-Pod and swear by it, and I really wanted to get an IPhone, but the reality is that there are cheaper options out there, and less limiting ones too, and that's the route I'll probably go down, unless I can find an extremely good reason not to. |

Yeah, but much of the appeal of an iPhone is in its user-friendliness so I'm trying to get an idea of how alternatives compare. There's no point in my getting an incredibly powerful smartphone if I don't need it, whereas an iPhone would be fun and easy to use. If there are other phones that are as much fun and as easy to use but much less expensive, that sounds like a winning combination to me.

Do you really need 32GB for your music? If so, get the 3GS. Or use the smart playlist feature in iTunes to sync part of your library, and each time you sync the songs on your iPhone will change. You can still have non-smart playlists for the "must-haves" that you want to keep on the iPhone.

I have over 100GB of music. I only have a 16GB iPhone, but with smart playlists I get plenty of music rotated through my iPhone each time I sync. (I tell it to give me 2GB of unrated music, 2GB of 4 or 5* rated, as well as my normal playlist of "Must Haves" and my playlist of choral pieces I'm learning for choir)
Are you _really_ saying you music have _all_ your music collection on your iPhone at all times? |

VF Have the HTC Tattoo coming this month, go to a store and have a play when its releases, it'll be much cheaper than the iPhone and do all you want.
Its Android based so will be a nice device to use too, i prefer using android to iPhone |

IMHO the T-Mobile Pulse will be far superior to the HTC Tattoo...
Available on PAYG for £180. I'm yet to have a play on one but the specs look good. |

Having never seen how Huwawi customise Android i would not like to put a view on it, but i can say that HTC Sense on Android is brilliant. did find this on the net, which leads me to belive the tatto will be a nicer phone to use. Quote:
At first glance the T-Mobile doesn't wow like the HTC Hero does from the interface or design. It isn't pushing social networking features in quite the same way, but it does offer you a great deal if flexibility through the Canvas homepage, even if it does seem a little linear compared to the HTC Sense UI.
Add to that Pulse is android 1.5 Tattoo will be 1.6 (dunno what the difference is though

Hero certainly not. |
