Phillips N 1460 Old VCR Colour Problems

Hello i'm not sure if anyone on here can help me this problem i'm not even sure if this is the correct forum as my machine is so old.

I'm trying to convert old tv stuff from Phillips tapes to VHS then to DVD (don't have the facility to go straight to DVD).The problem is for some strange reason none of the tapes are in colour.I have all the correct cables connected and the picture is fine it's just the colour that is missing .

I'm using a scart lead in the back of the tv have got
Audio L...R.... S - Video and Video cables connected in the scart .Where am i going wrong.? I'd be very grateful for any help thanks.

Btw the programmes on the tapes should be in colour they're not black and white.

I think the problem you are having is to do with the S-video to scart,i.e. pin 15 on the scart plug, which is the colour info.
Does the Phillips recorder output S-video,or is it just Composite video ?

S-video isn't applicable to VHS. If your TV input is trying to use S-video as the connection type then the picture will be in B&W. Use composite (A.K.A. CVBS) to make sure the TV is receiving the the full colour info.

Incidentally, if you are archiving some old N1460 tapes to DVD then I'd recommend you avoid going to VHS first. You'll lose loads of quality that way.

Beg or borrow a DVD recorder (or better still a hard disc DVD recorder) to make the copies. Recording to hard disc then duping off to DVD won't lose quality because the hard disc to DVD stage is a direct digital copy. The hard disc route also allows you the chance to edit out any unwanted portions and then make a couple of extra safety copies very easily.

CVBS is Composite Video. It's what you get though the yellow plug/socket. It's a colour picture.

At the moment you probably have the N1460 connected to the TV with an aerial lead. Is that right? There might also be some connectors on the back to get a better quality signal. Seeing as this is a very old machine (early 70's) then it's well before SCART, phonos or many of the current style sockets. To be honest the plug type might be something quite bizarre, so it could take some work just to find the right type. Pictures would help. Can you take some clear good quality stills?

The scart lead is going into the back of the tv and the aerial connection goes into the vcr. The scart has a yellow video cable s video cable and a red and white audio cable all plugged in .I'll try and take a pic of it .If i removed the s - video would it work just with the yellow cable
