Am I going mad? at 12.48 today I was in a discussion with, amongst others, "TERN" and "RD3000" about "customers moving goal posts" when it comes to writing software. It WAS there in the forum and now its gone.

The post by RD3000 that started the thread was only made to bait people and and cause trouble so the mods have almost certainly, and very sensibly, deleted it.
Hmm, I'm not too happy about this.
I had also posted on that thread suggesting that the OP maybe shouldn't have posted but also explaining why I thought people were right to express their disappointment that Humax, via their representative (official or not) on this forum, have been promising updates to deal with some obvious bugs since the spring but nothing has emerged yet.
I hope we aren't going to get in to the situation that occurred on the Zone Alarm forum a few years ago when any post that (rightfully) criticized Zone Alarm disappeared.
I think the mods should re-instate the thread.

The thread was probably pulled because of the manner in which the op baited, not because of criticisms of Humax. Besides there are more than enough threads covering up and coming s/w updates, or lack of them, that still exist.
Indeed there are but this is the first time on here I've heard of threads being pulled and when I last looked at it before luch there was nothing particularly "strong" on it. I just don't want the pulling of it to start a trend so I've put my two penn'orth in. Basically, I don't like censorship.
I think there has been a problem with the system the last few days / weeks.
A couple of days ago I enter a post that did not turn up so I refreshed the page and still no post so the next step, I logged out and back in again, still no post so I sent the post again then I got a duplicated post warning then low and behold my original post turned up 10 minutes late.

Could the thread remain on view, but be a "closed" thread that could be viewed but not edited or added to. Then, surely, there could be no talk of censorship. I would tend to agree the thread was not that bad, there have been far worse threads that have not been removed in the past.
How can we be sure it has been deleted, is there a way of checking?

I think the pulling in this case because the whole intention of the thread was just to cause trouble. It had no legitimate purpose whatsoever.

Not arrogant, but you do sound a bit like someone's mother.
The thread was intended to bait people who had problems with their boxes so there really isn't any need to include someone who stood up for such people in your opprobrium.

We don't like removing threads and it is very much a last resort. That said, the thread to which you refer was seemingly created only to antagonise other forum members which is something we will not tolerate. It is unfortunate that some constructive posts were lost and for that we apologise.
There are ongoing related discussions to which you may add your thoughts however, as well as the option of creating your own thread.

Bob_Cat has withdrawn from discussions about software updates in a recently closed thread. I just wanted to say that having seen his posts during the last months, I have become more and more certain that he is someone who is on the side of the angels. He isn't obliged to speak honestly and informatively on these forums. On the contrary. Some of the things he's said are so far off-message they have probably caused him some grief at work. He can only be doing this because, basically, he identifies with the users. (On a personal note that backs up this view, out of the blue Bob pm'ed me a while ago with helpful info about something I was trying to do that had nothing to do with Humax. Thanks again Bob.)
Private contributors to forums have the luxury that they are not accountable for their input. Representatives of companies do not. Private contributors do not have to live through the realities of a product development cycle. Representatives of companies do.
The company rep working outside his employment remit (that is: does not give bland, fob-off responses) is a poor target for brickbats aimed at the company. Something has to give. Bob gave. This is an unnecessary loss. I hope he continues to contribute to other threads, and has just left the status of the firmware development behind him.
