I am thinking off getting this phone when my contract is up for renewal with 02 in a couple off months time.

The question is with the Iphone 3GS can i put my own music collection on the phone not downloaded from Itunes just songs saved on my computer which i have purchased over the years???.

If the answer is yes do you put the songs on the phone via USB etc.

If this is not possible do you have to purchase the songs via itunes only.

Thanks.

Ive asked my mate who has one and you dont need to have purchased tracks from Itunes. You can upload your own ones.

Im assuming it would be over USB as I don't think the iPhone supports Bluetooth File Transfer unless it is between 2 iPhones.

You need to use itunes to transfer the songs to the iphone, but don't need to have purchased the songs from the itunes store.

There no drag and drop

You don't need to have purchased the music from the iTunes store, but you need to use the iTunes software to put your songs on your phone.

The songs need to be iPod compatible- in mp3, m4a or m4p format to show up on the phone. If you import non-mp3 music into iTunes, you can use iTunes to convert it to mp3 format.

You would drag your music collection into iTunes (if necessary convert the files to mp3 format), and sync your music to the phone via a special USB lead which is included with the iPhone.

If you don't like itunes, you can use media monkey once you have the drivers installed & with media monkey you can drag & drop .

You will need to download the slow and not always responsive iTunes.

It will only run a few programs in the background on your PC, even when iTunes isn't open - programs like AppleMobileDeviceService.exe, iPodService.exe and iTunesHelper.exe. Close them, they will re-open right up again. Delete them and iTunes stops working.

Transfering files is a little bit difficult, but once you learn how, it only takes around 5-10 minutes each time.

You will need to use the same computer to transfer songs - otherwise, you could lose your library.

Once songs are on the iPhone, you can't remove them. The only way is to go through the iTunes process again.

Be careful to tick the right box, otherwise every tune on your PC will transfer over - including those horrible Windows default songs.

You will only have to update iTunes every second time you use it - which if you're like me, will probably be every 2 days or so. Downloads take me around 5 minutes on a 4mbps connection.

You might be happier buying a simpler phone, where you can drag-and-drop files.

You would save money too.
