Bob has withdrawn from this freesat + forum because he felt he was being attacked unfairly by certain members of this forum.

Now, it doesn't matter who is right or wrong at this stage, let's start again. We need someone like Bob to supply us with background information from Humax. Otherwise everything will be, at best, a guess at what's going on.

If you support Bob, please say so here on this thread.
If not, then Bob will know where he stands.

These kind of forums will always have the kind of people that slag off without thought, those who unluckily have a duff box, and those that just want to troll, I'm sure Bob knows that and in the vast majority of cases when he is treated unfairly there are others that chip in to support him.

With the best will in the world however none of us (except the mods) can stop this.

If I were him I might be feeling that the freesat iplayer crew had stitched me up regarding firmware release and stay away until the trial actually starts !

I've nothing against Bob, but I think it is probably not necessary for him to be in this particular place. Unfortunately there are many people who i used to read their posts, of differing opinions, with some interest but who choose not to take part anymore. So in the same way, I expect the Bob fans out there may just continue to not respond to these personal side topics and respect his decision. (no offence mean't to the OP)

If you are mad about Humax products and lots of nitty gritty details you can often get lots of sometimes inside info from the relevant sections of hummy.org.uk. It's not unheard of that Bob will chip in once in a while there too..

To be honest, the fact that Bob even posted here was a lucky privilege and all the idiots who ranted and raved at him and about the product have only themselves to blame for his absence.
At the end of the day it's just a satellite box. On the grand scheme of things people can afford to get irate about much more important issues.

NOBODY ranted and raved at bob_cat- apart from yesterday perhaps when Tern felt the need to reply to what he felt was a misrepresentation of his position. They might have raved at the company Humax - which is thoroughly deserved.

We have not actually been given a great deal of information by bob_cat - very little in fact - apart from at least 3 times suggesting dates for upgrades to firmware that were way out.

I hope bob_cat comes back - but to be honest there was never much he felt free to tell us.

I am a rocking horse with technology, but I am surprised that those with seemingly superior knowledge than I, have not realised that developments often take longer than first forecast.

I have nothing against the poster who calls him/herself Bob_Cat but I don't think he/she actually gave any information that was of use in relation to updates, fault fixes etc.

I have not ranted and raved (another posters words) at Bob_Cat BUT I HAVE complained as a result of problems with the PVRs.
Clearly something IS wrong with them as I have had 4 yes 4 Humax Freeview PVRs, each (except the last so far) with the same fault and 2 Foxsat HDRs, the first of which had the same fault as the others

Well I for one would much rather read Bob_Cat's comments than some others. Whilst every one is has a view and opinion I do get fed up with having some opinions coming across as matters of fact - I do find them very boring and a complete tern off.

I would guess he has to follow his company guidelines as part of his employment contract.

And to me it would seem apparent that they have no idea when, if ever we will get any real software/firmware updates for our HDR boxes.

Now we all know a new model is on the horizon, where do you think Humax will be putting all its technical resourses? On a legacy product or the new one?

Of course the new one I expect would have been designed from an early stage to play web based/streamed video content.

I must also say I do not blaim Humax 100% for this but also whoever in the Freesat organisation thought adding iplayer would be a great idea (assuming it was not in the original specification).

But again, if it was not in the original spec Humax should have said, "no it can't be done with the current hardware" (which may be the case).

It would also be interesting to know if the Freesat org paid Humax any money for the development of the iplayer feature?

Always appreciated Bob_cats comments myself, I understand these developments take time, and I would imagine most of the engineers are working on the new 2010 HDR product now....

I work in the technical side of AV, but post rarely and reluctantly in the technical parts of DS, owing to a number of posters who are astonishingly rude and astonishingly ignorant. It's not worth the aggro. If you want an argument, the politics forum is right there.

I know this does not help those who have problems with their HDR’s but over the pass 10 months that I have been using this box I have had no problems with it other than the ITV HD red button joke coupled with constant channel change updates.

I use to subscribe to Sky HD and had a Sky HD plus box (still have un-used)which over the two years I used it also never had any problems where as other where having problems.

Between the HDR and the Sky HD + box I prefer the HDR although of course the HD content running through it may be less than Sky, I don’t think we can blame Humax for that.

There are software bugs in the box that can be annoying but I think it’s a little bit silly getting annoyed because you can’t delete a programme whiles recording another.

With regards to Bob_Cat I can relate with the position he finds himself in having worked in middle management for many years with the bosses telling you one thing then telling the work force something else.

I have notice that some of the post are referring to Humax FREEVIEW boxes and not FreeSat boxes in a FreeSat thread?.

I look forward to a HDR update but have no problems as thing’s are so take your time Bob.

Perhaps the Mods would like to close this thread now as it is redundant. Bob has confirmed that he has not gone away.

To be honest, I'd prefer Humax do as Bob recently stated and just updated their website with news of updates, saves sifting through the rubbish on the site (we know who) to try and find nuggets of real info.

Go on Humax, be brave and put something on your website that gives some insight of what is being proposed in forthcoming updates and perhaps an estimated timeframe!

Freesat don't pay manufacturers, if anything the manufacturers pay Freesat.

iPlayer has always been on the cards for Freesat, and was why the spec included an ethernet port - oviously it couldn't be implemented originally because it didn't exist, and still doesn't - but it shouldn't be too long now (hopefully).

Likewise, the Sky HD box includes ethernet (long before Freesat existed) for a similar reason.

I do think it is a shame that some members here feel the need to rant as they do.

Get a life! And put this in perspective. The boxes are not that bad.

And for the poster who said he had bought 4 Humax boxes, all of which had problems... If they are that bad in your opinion - why do you keep buying them?

Unlike the basic issues like no delete when recording and a long wait for the guide to load when the other tuner is doing nothing
