Hi.
I'm new to the Forum and despite searching for an answer to my problem I have had no luck, so here goes.
Whilst my Humax HDR is recording I cannot watch certain other channels at the same time, although I can watch the channel that is being recorded. Not much use really.
Is this a common problem, or is something amiss?

sounds to me like 1 of your inputs isn't working check your cables & connections

Welcome to the forum Guile.

I take it you have two sat feeds to the foxsat, if so was it first set up with both feeds or have you added the second at a later date? If it was the later the then you need to perform a factory reset to make the box recognise the twin feeds.
If you have always had two feeds from the off you need to check you connections and then perform the factory reset.
If you only have one connected sat feed then what you are experiencing is correct.

I have 2 feeds which were originally used for my Sky+ box.
I do however recall a problem with one of the cables, i.e; bad connection at a joint.
Would this mean a reset is required?
If so, is that easy to do?

Yep it's simple just press 'menu' move curor down to 'set up' then across (and down) to 'factory reset' and press 'ok'. You will have to re-enter your post code and then reset your personal settings and retune the non-freesat channels and reschedule your recordings so it's a good idea to make a note of all these before the reset. You will NOT loose any recordings saved to disc.

Could you possibly expand on 'non freesat channels', I'm not sure what you mean by that. I thought they were all from Freesat.

It is easy also to connect the dish to the wrong connections on the box back.

It is the two outer LNB connections that must be used rather than two together which logic would dictate.

Again press 'menu' then scroll down to 'set up' and then select 'manual tune' this will scan for all the free to air channels available on the astra and eurobird satellites. Set transponder to 'all' disable network search, set scramble type to FTA and channel type to all, then select search and press ok.
When this is complete the box will resume in non-freesat mode and you can switch between freesat and non-freesat by pressing 'menu' settings (first option vertically)then stb mode > 'ok' this will toggle the two modes press exit to exit the menu and return to the tv screen

Try these to confirm your 2cables/tuners are OK.

2 Tests for 2 tuner capability :-

Set a recording reservation on 104, can you set a recording on 136 at the same time as 104? If you can, then you must have 2 tuner capability. (104 is low band horizontal and 136 is one of the few channels on high band vertical). Cancel these.

Now, go to 951 BBC 1 CI and start an instant recording, go to 108 BBC HD and start another instant recording. Now tune in to any other channel and press pause. If you can pause a 3rd channel your stb is working correctly, with full 2 cable/2tuner functionality, if not you need to do a factory reset. (You can record two channels at the same time using just one tuner if they are one the same transponder, so if a "friendly" combination of channels is used it is not a true test).
