I was being lazy - I should have paired them up before posting that table!
But then we would have missed all this speculating and discussion - and the memories of Carol's Rumba .

If the clip was still on YouTube I would be very tempted to post a link now .

I thought today's "Choreography Corner" was excellent. Nice to get some insight into the tricks the pros use.

I absolutely, wholeheartedly disagree with Karen saying the paso is the easiest and the quickstep is the hardest In fact, I'm wondering what she was smoking when she said it. Even if that's her personal opinion, it doesn't seem to be AT ALL true for Strictly.
The paso does seem to allow a lot of posing.

Perhaps the past isn't the easiest to do well but is the easiest to get a 5 or 6 for?

She seemed to talk as though the paso is a guaranteed success and the quickstep makes it harder. I looked through all the info I can find and five out of the six years I had info for, someone went out dancing the paso in the paso's first week. To my knowledge only one person has gone out with the quickstep in the quickstep's first week.

I thought Karen was only talking about dances on SCD and meant doing a Paso as your 3rd dance was easier to survive than doing a QS. I didn't take it as meaning outside SCD.

The quickstep is a very difficult dance to master at such an early stage, with them having problems with gapping, and also in a lot of cases, making mistakes (and getting out of sunc with the music) due to the speed. There doesn't seem to be a great deal to learn for the Paso, that seems to be much more a performance based dance, rather than a technical based dance (though there are still specific Paso steps), so from that point of view, the Paso is probably among the easiest dances to do for the less able dancers.

That's what I was talking about.

Out of six people eliminated in the paso's first week in SCD, five of them were dancing the paso.

Out of six people eliminated in the quickstep's first week in SCD, two of them danced the quickstep.

Couldn't find one series' info. Surely that suggests you're several times more likely to be eliminated if you do the paso than the quickstep.

I don't think it does suggest that, because the stat's complicated by the "in the __'s first week" part. I'm not sure what it shows, especially since those could be different weeks.

i agree and i think this is what karen meant. you can pick up far more points in a paso for giving it the "attitude", whereas you can't do that in QS

Just caught up with ITT. Great tonight, really enjoyed Karen's segment, it would have been nice to hear her view on more of the dances though, i could have listened to her for the whole show, they have to make it longer than half an hour if it's going to be this good

Lots of the QSs went wrong on Saturday, which seems to make Karen's point, which I took to be that the QSs are usually later when they've learned more about hold, gapping etc. Personally I think the paso is easy to look an idiot doing, since it's all posing and stomping, I'm not sure it's a great vote winner, but clearly, going on Saturday, if you go wrong on the QS in just a second in your timing it stands out really obviously, while in the paso perhaps you can get away with more?

What do you all think of the next 2 - which is easier the salsa or the foxtrot?

Until this series, QS week was almost always during the 'female celeb' week (series 4-6). It's already clear that at least in the beginning, even if the female celebs made mistakes, the male pros can more likely adjust and guide the female celebs back on track.

Whereas by the paso week, there was no more male/female week to speak of. And since paso is more a 'male dance', it's more likely for the male celebs to be marked down, and therefore eliminated.

Does that make sense?

I'm sorry, but I'm not following you.

I think it depends on when the Paso is being danced in the series.

In Series 1-4 the Paso was danced in Wk4 and was up against the FT. In Series Wk 5 it was danced in Wk 5 and was also up against the FT. In Series 6 it was danced in Wk 6 and was up against the VW. To me this means if you can't dance the Paso well enough by Wk 4 to beat the ballroom dance being danced, then you are probably not a very good dancer.

In Series 3 when the Paso was being danced in Wk 4 Fiona & Brendan danced the Foxtrot and were sent home - Fiona was a terrible dancer.

In Series 4 when the Paso was being danced in Wk 4 Georgina & James also danced the Foxtrot and were sent home - Georgina was a terrible dancer.

I think Karen was saying that those couples who did the Quickstep this week - the equivalent of only Wk 3 - did well to survive against those dancing the Paso.

Does this make sense?

Is it always Karen that does it? Missed the first couple of weeks because I was away so I'm new to this series of ITT but have always enjoyed it other years. I thought that it was excellent I was so glad that Karen noticed Ricky Groves arms in perfect symmetry with Erin's in the Paso because I noticed it on the night too and was very impressed! There's a dancer in Ricky G not just a comedian

That's the way I interpreted what she said too.

I'm in total agreement I'd like to hear her dissect all the dances by the ALL the celebrities. IMO the programme could do with being at least 15 minutes longer as Claudia is always having to hurry people up or break off when the interviewees are being really interesting Great show though, I love it

That's true, but I'm thinking quality is better than quantity!

Lotty I agree about Ricky G - there is a dancer in inside! . He has such determination and is definitely getting better.

One of the things I like about this series is that several of the celebs (Ricky G, Chris and Jade - maybe others) are only thinking about how well they can do and not how well the others are doing.

Karen was excellent in CC, but Len and someone else has done it too this year (my mind has gone blank )! But I think Karen has been the best so far.

Evening Buddy.

I've come in here to escape the Thread Which Will Not Die.

Is Camilla the one you've blanked on? I think she did the first CC.

That's it! Camilla did the first week! I thought she was better than Len, but not as good as Karen. Mind you I am nit picking as I think CC is excellent!

Re: Thread Which Will Not Die - I don't understand why it hasn't been locked. It isn't even the only thread on DS - there is one on the Broadcasting forum too.

As much as I've never been a fan of Karen particularly, her CC was very good and very clearly explained! It's a shame we've done away with the Masterclass feature 'cause Karen's Masterclass would have been very successful, I think (even if that would be a slightly... unconventional pairing! ).

Maybe a mod should be alerted to the TWWND? It's just going round in circles and I know it's starting to get to me now if I go in there. I was having such a good Strictly as well... sigh.

I liked the idea suggested after another ITT show that the pros who are out of the competition do the Master classes and IIRC I think the name Matthew Cutler featured a lot! Karen would be good too1

I think they've had a different expert do "Choreography Corner" each week. (From other posts, seems it was Camilla, Len, and now Karen.) They were all interesting, but I think Karen's was the best so far.

The one(s) who did CC last year were also good.

I'm very impressed with ITT this year. There's been hardly any "faffing about". There hasn't been too much Len. And they pack a lot into each show.

They have to be careful if they invite the likes of Johnny Vaughan, though. I think that's the only time ITT lost control of the time.

When there are fewer contestants, I hope ITT gives more time to them and to and segments such as CC the one that looks at training, rather than adding faffing and filler.

I sent an alert yesterday but as you can see it had no effect.

I'm off to bed and looking forward to ITT tomorrow night!
