I am wanting to know what is the best way of finding out the ID of a Blocked caller. Someone is calling me anytime in the afternoon and evenings but also at stupid o'clock from a blocked number.

I am using an iPhone on O2 and it is jailbroken so do make use of the iBlacklist application to block out witheld numbers but don't always like to use this because, there might just be an occasion where a genuine caller is trying to contact me for whatever reason so I tend to switch the call blocking program on and off depending on many things.

When this person is calling me, on all but one of the occasions they have been silent. I could hear faint whispers of someone saying hello repeatedly when I received a call yesterday evening.

I know that changing my number might well be suggested but at the moment, that is not something I want to do.

Anyone know how I could catch the blocked caller?

No there is no way that this can be done unless you call O2 and tell them that you are getting nuiscence calls , saying this though they might not have the priority to be able to find out the number of witheld numbers

Hope this helps

The telecoms companies know the identity of every caller, whether they withhold the number form the recipient of the call or not. They have to otherwise they wouldn't know who to bill for the call.

Whether O2 can be bothered to trace this caller is another matter but they could certainly find the number if you gave them some fairly exact times. If they were so inclined. Trouble is I suspect they are more likely to do this for abusive or threatening calls rather than just annoying silent ones.

But you can try asking them.

With the right sort of phone line and the right sort of equipment and software you can find out this number as well. But not on a mobile. When a call is made two numbers are sent. The CLI which is passed on (or not) to be displayed on the recipients phone and a Billing Number which only the telecoms companies and certain other agencies like the 999 operators are allowed to access.

If a caller withholds their number nothing at all is transmitted in the CLI field so there is no way it can be revealed on your phone. As far as I am aware the billing number is only visible if you have a fixed landline circuit feeding several digital lines into a switchboard. A standard domestic landline or mobile never gets sent this data.

I know at work our telecoms manager has the software to log onto the system and inspect the raw data sent with every phone call received. And you can clearly see these two numbers in there. And also clearly see that the CLI one is totally blank if the caller withholds it.
