Samsung LE40A656A - Disabling Analogue Source
When DSO is complete I will no longer need the analogue TV source option on my Samsung. Does anyone know if there is a firmware update planned which will remove analogue from the source list?

Only way to tell for sure is to ask Samsung, however I think it will be most unlikely.

What about all the people using the RF2 output from their sky boxes, they would be none too happy if the anologue source option was nobbled.

I set up my parents new Samsung TV today and there was the option to tune Digital & Analogue or Digital only in the Auto-tune option.
You could also delete the analogue channels in the Tools options, I removed the weakest ones to leave the 5 strongest of the PSBs. Not sure if your Sammy works the same way. |

Firmware updates are not compulsory.

Forced firmware updates are a bad thing as rights holders put pressure on companies to remove a feature in, say, the EPG that they now wish to start charging for.
The law has not caught up with this development yet. |

Thanks for your comments people.
It seems like the answer, for the time being, is no. I guess we will have to continue to scroll through all the source inputs whether they are in use or not. Bit irritating but not fatal. |

Get your self a Harmony remote, its great for stuff like this, you can set it so it turns on your TV and Sky/cable/dvd box and set it to the correct source with one button press. They start at about £30 and go up to about £200 depending on build quality and screen type.
Also you can then put all your other remotes away and control everything with just the one. I have the same TV and it nice never have to scroll through the inputs. |
