I find him extremley irratating.

He doesn't irritate me nearly as much as Tom did.

Ricky appears to be totally earnest in his attempts so is pleased with the positive comments - and he's a great mover.

Tom, in my opinion, was so arrogant that he expected praise and then did an actor's "I am so humble" when he received it. His dancing, however, left me cold.

Ricky appears to have natural rhythm and a passion for music, Tom "acted" it and was not a worthy winner...

Could not agree more! Methinks there's an agenda there, maybe an attempt to postion himself into a different career.

It would be easy to be cynical but honestly I just think he's humbled by how well he's done and people's praise for him and he is clearly also wanting to do well for his partner.

Agreed

If he appeared pleased with himself all the time he'd be called smug and arrogant. The boy can't win

I cannot believe someone has taken the time to post this drivel on here???
Ricky is by far the best dancer this series and I look forward to his performances. NO, I am not a silly little 16 yr old Hollyoaks watcher and in fact, I had to ask my sisters who the guy was. I am, in fact, a very hetrosexual 54 yr old guy who just loves this programme for what it is. Light entertainment.
He has obviously bonded with Natalie (who is a vast improvement on the dancer who appeared last year from the Antipodes) and my wife and I were only discussing during the week how he seems humble and prepared to acknowledge Natalie is the Boss and in charge.
Remember, we are looking at a young black guy here who very more than likely has women falling at his feet due to his looks and physique. Yet, he has totally excepted he is the beginner here and I take GREAT pleasure in watching his and Natalies routines.

Wow the OP really doesn't appear to like Ricky. Personally I can't see the resemblance to Tom at all. For a start we haven't had weeks upon weeks of his bl**dy wedding preparations.

I like the guy, he really seems to be enjoying the experience and handling the pressure of being one of the favourites very well.

I dont bear the guy any ill-will and have enjoyed his dancing immensely.

BUT...

I am also finding his obsequiousness more than a little grating. Sorry fans

It's interesting to read what people perceive to be his character (admittedly I have done it myself with past contestants) but to be honest I see no hidden agenda with Ricky. He seems an honest, regular guy to me. I watched him when he saw the scores come in he looked like someone who was genuinely happy and thankful. I just imagined the relief he felt at getting such good scores when he and Natalie had trained so hard.
He seems a very ordinary guy and maybe that's why people think he's boring. He has a great talent, he's naturally very good at something. He doesn't come across as arrogant to me but I guess because there is no "journey" he is boring to some.

I think this is potentially an example of how the Great British Public do not like people who are talented and much prefer the underdog who goes on one of those 'journeys' that litter reality TV.

Its sad really. The man is an excellent dancer and will make this DANCE competition exciting. I felt he was right in his comments yesterday, that he still has a lot to learn. He definately isnt perfect yet and he knows this. And so what if he wants good comments...isnt that what they alll want? Personally I find Jo Wood's 'Im a sad little granny but Im trying SOOOOOO hard' act really annoying but I dont care, I just want to see her dancing. They all have their own agenda, some hide it better than others.

I like Ricky and I don't think he 'craves' good comments any more or less than the other contestants.

I'm sure that after putting in the hard work they do to learn a dance that they appreciate hearing good comments from the judges.

A lot of the celebs can`t win whatever they do

I`m thoroughly enjoying SCD this year and the celebs all bring something different to the show. Usually there is one celeb I can`t stand and take the opportunity to make a cuppa when they come on but <so far anyway> this year I find I`m glued to watching every routine

I find it sad that this whingeing about Ricky W is SO predictable. He's black, he's gorgeous and he's talented, deal with it. As for thinking that you all know who he really is, I think the negative views are a very accurate view of resentment of the individual rather than considered opinion. The Brits really do love a loser

Well said drbolognaise!

I agree with the bolded part especially. No matter how well you've done, there's always nagging doubt on whether you've actually done well. It's human nature (unless you're Vincent, because of course he's fabulous ). I don't see anything to doubt he's actually any different to Joe Blogs.

And?................. ?

As part of the human race, I suppose you do know that a lot of people like to hear nice things about themselves, yes?

and what relevance does this have , twice on this thread it has been mentioned that Ricky whittle is balck , why should this have anythingto do with his attitude or how he can dance

I personally think he dances beautifully but am not convinced that he will win as i dont see any real natural fun or freindship in the pairing with Natalie. She seems very driven and intent on winning and I think that he also has a competative streak so that some of the fun of the dance is lost . I am aware that it is a competion and I expect people to try hard but the desperation to win is bit off putting !

Or, more accurately, they seem to hate success.

You don't think it is a bit hypocritical to state that you find Jo Wood's "act" annoying in the same post where you berate those of us who find Ricky Whittle's "act" annoying?

Or are we only allowed to be annoyed with a personalities personality if they arent a very good dancer?

No, I do find people who dont read the entire post annoying though. I think you'll find I said that although I find her annoying, I dont care, because I just want to focus on her dancing. So no my dear, Im not hypocritical at all.

Not only did I read your whole post, I even quoted your whole post, so there is absolutely no excuse to try and imply I took your words out of context.

My point is, you allowed yourself to publically state that you found one person's demeanour "annoying" and false (in that it is an act she is putting on) while decrying the fact the OP had done the same albeit about a different celeb. Adding a caveat saying you focus on the dancing is irrelevant once you have named names and made accusations about someone's genuineness.
