I think this thread has gone just where the BBC and Anton du Beke supporters thought it would. By their lack of openess they have encouraged rumour and nastiness about Laila to deflect attention away from the fact that Anton du Beke made a couple of jibes to his partner because of her race, lied about it and when tackled only came up with a halfhearted apology.

By the way I'm glad to see the make fun of race relations and ask for the thread to be shut down chrew Anton followers back on the thread. It highlights why it is important to discuss this issue as so many people want it ignored so that the racism can continue unchecked.

I made my feelings known at the beginning of this thread when it was actually about the remarks Anton made. now i pop in every so often and am amazed that it is still going on, albeit in circles. I do understand how people may have felt over his comments, so please don't assume from this post that I hadn't. Also when did we lose in this country the Freedom Of Speech. Perhaps i shouldn't have dared to try and lighten the situation but for goodness sake don't you think the subject has been done to death .To be fair the number of people that I have spoken to that may by their colour and creed have been affected by Anton's remark have said to me they weren't upset and that he apologised so let's get on with our lives. I work in an area full of people from mixed race and different cultures and they believe that others have taken a stand against Anton thinking they are helping these people's cause and it wasn't necessary. I take exception to your words on arrogance of the situation and feel that was a comment too far. I always try in my posts not to become personal about other posters.

yeah cos like the daily heil are so well-known for being "non-judgmental" about weight issues every other showbiz "story" they do is them papping a female celeb and going on in close up about how repulsive they are for putting on an ounce of weight or having a little cellulite.

Most popular rags and mags especially those sold to young people a peddle stories about bodies in general and body weight in particular. It's big business.

Today the Daily Mail and other national papers focussed on a pair of obese parents who have had their obese children removed from their care.

You say a couple of jibes. We know the p-word one; what's the other? And don't say the 'terrorist' story because both Laila and Anton have denied it and the NOTW - not renowned for leniency when it comes to scandal - dropped the story after one day and have never reffered to it again because of the denials and the lack of any evidence it occurred. And, of course, it doesn't show up on the BBC VT of their meeting. So assuming it's not this I'm intrigued to know of this other jibe.

What makes you think we have ever had freedom of speech ? We have a darn sight more freedom of speech than most of the world but no-one has freedom of speech.

yeah peddling "stories" about how disgusting and repellent overweight people are, especially female celebs who happen to put on an ounce of fat. for the daily heil to get any credit for highlighting how put-upon overweight people are is a bit rich when theyre usually the first to stick the boot in in the first place.

You still haven't got around to showing the denial by Laila. If Anton denied it of course that is irrelevant as he lied about the **** remark until he was forced to acknowledge it.

Isn't it odd to call for freedom of speech - and in caps too - when you are asking people to stop discussing an issue, or do you mean freedom of speech for your view only.

Racism is obviously an important issue, but isn't it time to call it a day on this particular incident ? It's the SCD forum for heavens sake, are you really going to keep this going up to the final and beyond ?

It's actively put me off posting for much of 3 weeks. Some people clearly need to keep grinding axes way past the point of no return.

When this discussion started it was as I said in my post relevent to Anton's comment, now it's got out of control. That is why I suggested that it ended. Some posters can't seem to let it rest. The caps were used so show respect for FREEDOM OF SPEECH, but repetition of speech is boring and time wasting. I don't personally think this is about Anton anymore, but I'll wait to get shouted down again:yawn:

Ask the people you admire so at the NOTW because they have both peoples' denials. Which is why they dropped the story immediately. Really, how many times am I going to have to say this? Had it been true it would have been so much bigger a story than the p-word one and yet it was never taken up by any other newspaper until the 'second' row blew up and there is no way that the NOTW would have let it go so abruptly.

As for Anton's initial 'denial', well you show evidence of that to me in any form other than the NOTW saying it! Then agin, you are clearly gullible or biased enough to believe everything that rag prints.

No until Anton leaves and the issue is therefore resolved. Ain't you got it yet?

I think that Anton's behaviour should be relevent to how he is perceived and it is. Some people obviously approve and others don't.
