Really annoying when she constantly kept saying 'you was'. If she's going to pronounce as an expert in front of millions please at least get your grammar right.

I know! That was irritating.

Agreed.

Was/were really grated on me tonight. They should sort that out pronto.

It wasn't annoying me til you lot pointed it out. It is now!

Fair point...but she needs to sort her marking out first.

Grrrrrrrr! It was so annoying and it just sounds so grating when you're meant to be giving an intelligent answer.

I missed most of what she was saying through shouting "were not was" at the tv constantly!

It really isnt a big deal.

The other grammatical annoyance was something like ( I can't remember the exact phrase, I just remember that it made me cringe) was -

.."That step you done...."

Don't know what sort of education she has had, but even Bruno has impeccable grammar.

I agree. Personally, I just see it as an idiosyncrasy. And like I've said in another thread, Brucie's been saying the catchphrase 'Nice to see you, to see you nice' for years now and nobody's banged on about how grammatically incorrect that is.

I'm going to sound like a complete fogey now, but yes, it does matter! Children and young adults today have atrocious grammar and spelling skills and it does matter. You are judged on what you say or write and how you say it.

In a lot of cases it's just laziness. My other problem with Alesha is her use of "ain't". Again if she's paid to be a judge, you should have at least a little respect for what she's saying because lots will dismiss her opinion for lack of grammar skills and she's having a hard enough time as it is.

So don't give others any more ammunition to hit you with.

I think she's pretending to be streetwise, like Nigel Kennedy, when he pretended not to be able to speak proper.

I do agree. I love Alesha and she is doing well but she must learn to sort out her "WASSES" (or should that be "Was's"? Joke), from her "WERES". She is a bright girl, she can do it.

I'm a complete grammar nazi. However... it's not particularly easy for someone who has been brought up using grammar incorrectly to change it suddenly. It's something you'd change if you concentrated/remembered to do so, but it would take a very long while indeed to get to the point where you'd use it properly all the time. If someone were to tell her, I'd be happier, but I'd not expect it to change immediately.

At least she uses her words correctly.

Yeah she was like rubbish yeah wiv 'er judging like.
More wiv 'er grammar like yeah?
Coz wot she sez aint that bad yeah?
It's just like the way wot she sez it yeah.

I admit to wanting to throttle her. Further training required for young Alesha. Even our colonial cousin Craig can speak the Queen's English. Moreover the gentleman from the land of Garbaldi has a better grasp of English grammar than Alesha. The shame of it...

Whilst I agree with most of what you're saying - this is a little bit of an over-exaggeration. I'm younger than Alesha, and I know that whilst a lot of people my age are... lacking with their English abilities, there are also plenty of us who are competent.

Disgraceful. Shocking. Outrageous! What is the world coming to? Ought not to be allowed. We cannot afford let standards slip like this. I won't be able to sleep now. I hope millions of people write to the BBC to complain.

Of course it's a big deal! Children watch this show, and probably look up to Alesha "the cool judge". She doesn't have to speak like the Queen, but she shouldn't be saying "you was" or "ain't".

I don't believe she doesn't know the difference, so she should just put a bit more thought into what she's saying. Other than that though, she has improved so much since week one.

I are not native speaker and I rarely writes correctly grammatically. I usually ignores her 'mistakes' and concentrates more on the content of her criticisms. Methink her comments is useful to the contestants. Marking, however, not very consistent.
