As many have observed, she is a reasonably intelligent and highly ambitious woman, who must be capable of making an effort to get basic verbs in order. All of which leads me to suspect that the 'gangsta' English she trots out is a choice, sadly condoned by the BBC in refusing to address the issue.”
I was trying to give Alesha the benefit of the doubt

If she is deliberately choosing to speak this way then who
exactly is she trying to impress? I'm pretty sure the majority of SCD viewers aren't 'Gangsta' and aren't particularly impressed by what they see as poor grammar.
I brought the regional accents into it because, for all I know, they may speak like this where she comes from. If so, it would be a lot more forgivable IMO. However if her Mum and Gran don't talk like that ... you have to wonder if she's doing it to be 'hip and trendy' (to coin a phrase

)

If so, it seems to be back firing big style and she should re-assess her grammar (IMO).

Be interesting to know.
Plus, how many of you complaining actually come from London?”
My Grandmother came from London but spoke quite 'posh'!
And you're absolutely correct in your assertion that no one who speaks like e.g. Stephen Fry or Rupert Everett gets any stick for
their accents!!
