What CAN'T you stop listening to? / Hidden Gems
What songs have you discovered in your own collection that you can't believe you didn't notice before?
What songs are you giving a disturbing amount of repeat plays to at the moment? This is quite long but read on and you'll see why I’m asking these particular questions. From out of nowhere this week I have been playing the Counting Crows song 'Mrs Potter's Lullaby' a helluva lot over the past couple of days. I have had it on repeat a fair few times; hell I’ve even got my stereo to wake me up with it playing. I came across the song by accident even though I have had the album This Desert Life for over 4 years now. I bought it with a bulk of others in a HMV sale binge but never really listened to it. My girlfriend was watching an old Dawson's Creek episode over the weekend and the song played during a scene. She really liked it and I knew the song but couldn't place the artist. After us both tearing our hair out for a couple of hours it clicked and I realised that I actually had the song on an album somewhere. After sifting through my boxes I found it and we listened to it a couple of times. The album is surprisingly very good and 'Mrs Potter's Lullaby' stands out as a spine tingling, uplifting and haunting 8-minute rollercoaster of a song. |

It doesn't happen very often, but I love it when a cd slow-burns on you and finds its way back into your brain... the two recently that I re-disovered were Short Bus - Filter and Relationship of Command - At the Drive-In (triggered off by buying the Mars Volta cd I think! It's hardly been off the cd player in the last couple of weeks
