Has Jo Wood stolen some of Lynda's thunder (and votes)?

I think that these kind of competitive reality shows always have a handful of cannon fodder contestants to help the more famous celebrities and the better dancers (who are the real ratings winners) stay the course.

Jo Wood has been a bit of a media presence due to her marital situation recently (don't think any of us believe that Lynda sells newspapers, bless her) and the cynic in me can't dismiss the possibility that the ones with the interesting back stories are kept in, if the opportunity arises, because it all results in more PR for the show.

It's not so obvious in SCD as it is in shows like the X Factor who definately throw in awful contestants into the live shows as a human shield for the chosen ones, but I do think it's there in the Production teams agenda.

In the battle of the Glamourpuss Grannies, neither of whom can dance very well, I reckon Lynda's leaving is no great loss to ratings. There are people, myself included, who would like to see Jo improve and get a little confidence back in her life if only to stick two fingers up at her lecherous drunk of an ex. There's nothing in Lynda's story or performance that makes me want to vote for her.

Not even her history of physical abuse at the hands of a violent husband? I admire the way she has used her experience to help others in the same situation.

To be honest I had forgotten about that - it was a while ago and she seems to be a happily remarried women with a stable life nowadays.

I do think some of the public are going to be swayed by a current sob story. I have never understood the 'vote for the underdog' phenomenon as I like to support the best dancers, but almost found myself voting for Jo the other week Common sense prevailed !

Repeat after me - I will not be swayed by sob stories. I will not be swayed by sob stories. I will not be swayed by sob stories. And do this until the lines close.

Call me heartless but I never fall for sob stories. Well maybe just one - 2 up 2 down on the Peter Kay sketch.

Now there's a man I'd like to see on strictly.
