Hi,
I have just bought this Samsung 2333HD 23" monitor from Tesco Extra.
I am trying to set it up but when it comes to connecting the antenna the input on the TV is too small. I am using just a normal male/female cable and have tried other ones, but they only very loosely fit into the 'antenna' input on the TV and won't push in properly, despite me pushing hard.
What is going on?

EDIT: I am putting it in the correct way round (male end of cable into female input).

You mean the male plugs are too small, and are a sloppy fit, or the female input is too small, meaning the male plug does not go in? If the plug won't go in, you must be putting it int he wrong hole, I am afaid, a search throws up no similar problems. Or else you are trying to use the wrong plug. RF aerial plugs are not that precisely made, but they always fit roughly speaking, they have not changed for 40 years or more. Does the other end fit your aerial socket? If so, you must be trying the wrong orifice. If not, it's thw wrong lead.

Hi,
The bolded bit is the problem.
It is definitely the right input, it's even labelled 'antenna'. I have looked carefully at the female TV input and it looks normal enough, no sign of any problem, it's just any male input cable I use just will not fit in there properly (only a very very tiny way in and not enough for the important parts to connect).

There's a lot of double entendre in this isn't there... I think you are trying to put it in the wrong hole, there is no way that Samsung are using a different sized connector unless they have given you an adapter in the box. I have mini TVs in the back of my car which have 3.5mm jack connectors, iPod headphone size, but they come with adapters. It's possible I suppose that it's a phono socket, it would work if you had the right connector, but highly unlikley. Check the packaging for adapters, check the book for a diagram of the connector positions. Most likley explanation is that the labels on the TV are confusingly placed. It may be because Korea is broken too. In the trade we say 'RTFM'! Clearly you don't really want to take it back, you could look a right idiot, never a comfortable position. Read the book, check if it mentions adapers, post again, someone else who has one might see the thread if it's bumped.

I've downloaded the manual and although there is no actual mention of the connector type in the text from the pictures it looks very much as though the antenna input is an F-Type.

One easy way to check is does the outer surface of the connector have a screw thread? A "normal" coax socket will be perfectly smooth. Also a standard coax socket has a distinct gap between the outer part of the socket and a small inner connector. An F type has just a hole in the middle.

If it is an F-Type then you need an adapter like this to use your existing cable

Or a cable like this

or this

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=29532

depending on what the other end plugs into

Thank you both for your generous assistance. Eventually, I was so fed up of not being able to use my new TV that I just thought "to hell with it" and pushed really hard and the RF cable finally went right in. I wasn't expecting it to, but I was just desperately hoping. Believe me though I pushed so hard it was like giving birth!!

Did you use gas and air or go for a full epidural?

Anyway, does it work now?

RF and SCARTS are notoriously sloppy connectors. If your new TV m'fr has tightened up, seems like they have been over zealous. Oh well.

I had the same problem with my 22" model, tried several times but it was so stiff it wouldn't go in. Pushed it a bit harder and it did eventually work.

I got the 2333HD last weekend and only have it connected via the antenna for my sky box. The picture is very good but it has a constant buzzing noise.

I had a play around with the settings and found that changing the energy saving mode to medium fixed the issue for about 30 seconds and then the buzzing noise returned.

If I mute the unit the noise is still there - if I turn the unit off then the noise dissapears striaght away.

Anybody got any advice for me to try before it goes back or has anybody else encountered this problem??
