Does anyone have a normal i.e. not 0844 phone no. for Humax support ? I get free 01 & 02 nos. from my ISP and I need to phone support tomorrow about the erratic performance of my remote.

There isn't one. The 0844 number is not free, but it's not one of those ripoff numbers.

Although the Humax web page says that customer should use the 0844 number they do give a 0208 3266000 for sales.


I would call the 02 number then ask to be put through to customer services. I do this all the time with banks and power supply companies.

Yes that's good idea. I've checked on the saynoto0870 website but there's nothing there. If I find it I'll put it on there.

Just to save anyone else wasting time the 0208 number cannot be used to get to customr support - it is a menu driven system that just refers you to the 0844 number.

How has it been behaving?

The OK button sometimes works, sometimes doesn't and sometimes sends 2 "ok"s. I've spoken to Customer Service who suggest doing a Factory reset in case it's the box not the remote. They won't send me a replacement, I've got to send them mine and do without remote whilst they test it and send a replacement if they think it is faulty. No idea how long that will. However if I decide to send the whole thing back under warranty they will do a swap via courier.
Doesn't make much sense to me.

You need to think deviously

Ask for a complete replacement, when the courier arrives simply take the remote from the replacement, and give him the replacement box and your old remote to take away.

Yes I had thought of that !!! But isn't it silly - why would I try to con a new remote out of them ?

That's not devious, that's bordering on dishonest, and as a retailer, you should know better.

I'm sure you you don't, but there might be others wasting their time when there is nothing wrong with the remote - so they want to check it, seems reasonable.

Well I think it would have been reasonable to check what the actual problem was and what I'd tried - like new batteries - before suggesting a factory reset. Seemed like a go away type of answer.

When I suggested that they might like to swap it he asked how old it was because it might be out of warranty. I had to point out that it couldn't be more than a year old since the product hadn't been out that long. I got the distinct feeling that he didn't know much about the product and just wanted me off the line.

He would have been happy to sell me a new one at £40 though so he could have suggested sending a new one and taking my card no. but only using it if I didn't return the old one within a certain time frame. I would have accepted that.

I haven't done a reset but I have looked more closely at the remote and find that sometimes a straight push on the OK button doesn't do anything but it can be rocked slightly and then it sends a signal. To me that suggests a dodgy switch but I don't want ( or think it is reasonable ) to be without the use of the HDR whilst Humax get round to testing and replacing it. So having a couriered swap of the whole thing is best for me but not for Humax.
