Scratch on IPhone

Ive noticed today that Ive got a scratch on my IPhone its about 3cm long and kinda goes in a curve shape. I not dropped my phone and have been really careful with it so I really dont know how its happened.

Im really upset about it only got my phone at the end of august and have a 2 year contract so really dont want to have a scratched phone for this long.

Is there anything I can do about it?

Is it on the screen or the case? I cured a minor scratch on a friends IPhone screen with a paste used by jewellers for polishing....I dont think it would work on the case.
Mine is covered in an external case and has a Zagg screen cover on it. So far nothing has got through to the phone.
If you do use a case, something could have got inside and scratched it.
