Only iPhone not getting flash support
http://www.pcworld.com/article/17308...artphones.html Quote:
Adobe unveiled the Flash 10.1 player, which will enable all Adobe Flash content to be accessible on smartphones. This means you'll be able to play Flash-based games and view Flash-based videos and Web sites. And yes, that includes Hulu. So i was almost tempted to get an iPhone on Vodafone, but this has totally put me off now.iPhone owners, however, aren't so lucky. Adobe said that they are still working to make the Flash Player compatible on the iPhone OS, but are hindered by limitations within the platform. Although Apple is left out this time around, the absence of Flash probably won't hurt the iPhone. The iPhone is already above and beyond other OS's in terms of its multimedia and gaming capabilities. Apple will want to jump on board soon, though; Flash Player 10.1 opens up some interesting multimedia possibilities for other platforms. The player supports multitouch, accelerometer and screen orientation, all of which makes for the optimal video-watching experience. It also supports gesture-based controls, which is a boon for gaming. Adobe said that the player won't be a drain on battery life, either. For example, the player goes to sleep when you receive an incoming call. A public developer beta will be available for Windows Mobile and Palm webOS will be available later this year. Betas for RIM BlackBerry OS, Nokia Symbian and Google Android will arrive in 2010. Adobe said that they are working with 19 out of the 20 major handset manufacturers so it is likely the Flash 10.1 player will eventually be available for non-smartphones as well. The software limitations, any guru's want to comment on the ease of apple fixing those limitations. |

I think they will feel disinclined to change anything, because it would allow to bypass iTunes app store as the only way to legally install and run applications on iphone. And they hate it if somebody brings alternatives to "core functionality".

As I understand it, the problem is partly due simply to how badly Flash tends to run on Mac OS in general (i.e. on desktop computers too). For whatever reason it ends up being very resource intensive and performance ends up being very under par, and therefore it has been impractical to port to the iPhone.
The other issue is that Apple handles 3rd party software for the iPhone by having them run as standalone apps rather than being allowed to be integrated into the main apps - so you can't have plugins for the Safari browser. It is possible that Apple themselves may integrate Flash into the Safari app at some point in the future, but I'm not sure how likely that is. The other thing to remember is that a lot of games can be played via Flash, and I think that may be at least of some concern to Apple - they make a huge amount of money from the App Store (and from what I gather the majority is from games). |

I don't know what other Mac users think but I've always found Flash very poor on the Mac. OK, my computers are getting a bit old now but the video is jerky and I frequently find sites which claim that I don't have Flash installed when I do.

I have no issues with flash on my Mac, things like YouTube and BBC iPlayer works perfectly fine.
Although I would quite like flash on my iPhone it's not a deal breaker for me. |

According to the BBC - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8287239.stm Quote:
However, it will not be available for the Apple iPhone, according to Mr Muraka. So never say never "We're going to need Apple's cooperation," he told BBC News. "At the moment Safari (Apple's web browser) doesn't support any kind of plug-in [on the iPhone]." "But we'd love to see it on there." Mr Wood said he thought that time would come soon. "As momentum builds, I think Apple will have little choice but to embrace it [Flash]," he said. "Watch this space." Apple did not respond to requests for comment.

They will need something to introduce around June time......People just expect it now....So could be a good time to do it.
Personally, it is the only thing that I would like on my IPhone that's not there at the moment, however, not a deal breaker. |

Exactly. They do not want to do it and they don't feel any pressure from their customers, so they won't. There were big expectations with new generation of iphone/itouch, but nothing really big happened, but people will be buying the new devices anyway.

Apple is also supporting HTML5 which has a very good chance of making Flash obsolete. |

95% of Flash content on the web is advertising. I love browsing with Safari, its almost like using AdBlock on Firefox! |

I intentionally block flash as it is, I only ever use if for watching video and that's when there is no alternative. I can't even think of an instance where I've even noticed not having flash on my iPhone so I couldn't care less that it's not allowed.

iphone will get flash - sort of: http://gizmodo.com/5374868/flash-app...-not-to-safari Quote:
After today's bad news, Adobe Senior Product Manager for Developer Relations Mike Chambers has announced a way to put Flash into the iPhone: Compile Flash into full standalone applications for the App Store. This solves part of the iPhone-Flash conundrum.
Using the next version of Flash Authoring—which is now in private beta—developers will be able to turn any Flash app or widget into an iPhone/iPod touch application. Some apps will require optimization, taking into account the iPhone's hardware limitations and its multi-touch user interface conventions |
