I read that too. I think it's pretty obvious that they don't really get on. No doubt they will try and make the best of it. Reminds me of series 3 with Patsy.

Anton made a booboo in private. That doesn't require a public apology. If he made it on TV I'd expect a public apology.

Those people would not have a legal leg to stand on. It's not a vote OUT, it's a vote IN. Their vote was to save Ali & Brian or Joe & Kristina from the dance-off. Their vote was not to guarantee Matt's exit.

If they had called a line specifically titled "To eliminate Matt and Martina" then it would be another matter entirely.

Furthermore, on Dancing on Ice (which operates the same voting system), when one celebrity broke his leg, they brought in a new contestant partnered by the male professional that was eliminated first. That established the precedent that it's absolutely fine. There was nobody expecting a refund and no legal quibbles.

It would make this go away a lot quicker if he made a public apology because it got leaked. He's a public eye, these things happen.

If I remember rightly Gary Rhodes and Karen didn't hit it off very well and
when he came back to dance at the end of the series he danced with Falvia.

Correct me if I'm wrong as it was a few years ago.

That was last year when Gary took part but the pro swap is really not ringing any bells.

Any if they do swap it's usually due to ilness or injury, not fallings out and pathetic things like that. That would just be rude to be invited back to the finally and say yes under the contingency that they can pick their pro.

No I think you misunderstand.
I don't think Gary picked Flavia.
My point is that they just swapped pros they
didn't bring in a new one.
I don't know the facts.

No what it was, was that Gary didn't get to do a ballroom so later on they had him dance with Flavia a ballroom dance. I don't think it was in the final but I taped the final and skipped through most of it last year.

Well remembered, I think that was just one ITT soon after he left as they interviewed him in the studio afterwards whereas during the final they aren't really talked to at all.

It was actually at the end of an ITT. I think Gary had always wished he could have done a Ballroom dance, and Flavia spent a bit of time teaching him some.

Thanks for that.

On Anton and Laila's working relationship, I am disinclined to believe anything the tabloids have to say on the subject. They do like to sensationalise after all.

Also...

Although it was the public who voted, the judges have the final say and it was Len who (IMO wrongly) had the casting vote to save Rav & Aliona over Matt & Martina.... so really, it was not the publics actual decision to remove Matt & Martina from the competition. Viewers can't complain if they rang up, paid their fee and chose to 'save' Matt & Martina, because at the end of it all, it's down to what the judges say anyway?

If I'd rang to save them I'd be happy for him to come back and replace another celebrity! I want him in the competition! lol

I`am no fan of Anton...but what gets me is that he described her as something she is`t.....I thought she was of Moroccan decent.....So although he described her as looking like a ..."&*£i".......it was used as an adjective....A bit like saying you look like "a bloated whale" if you`d put on a few pounds.....So whats he being censored for....Using a word that is no longer deemed acceptable.....or for calling her something she is not?......Ok I`am white.....I get a strictly spray tan....and someone describes me as looking like a $%&i....Would I feel insulted...no....would the use of that word offend me...umm...I`ll be honest..probably not(sorry)...but If I was Pakistani....and I was described as a £$%i...then that`s a different matter.....I`am definitely not trying to defend Anton...but he`s being hammered for using a word that is no longer deemed acceptable.....Like we no longer use the word Golliwog(please don`t take offence).....That offence is completely different from Racially Insulting his partner......Personally I think he`s an absolute plonker....and if you use the word $%&i in conversation then it has to be part of your day to day vocabulary....It would never enter my mind to to use the N or P words as I don`t use them in day to day conversation......Back on topic......Unless there are any major developments then Laila is stuck with Anton.....so even if we ignore the controversy......sadly she has no chance of winning because Anton`s routines just lack that winning sparkle......Which is a shame really....Personally I hope he breaks his big toe and Matt C has to stand in.
As others have said...SCD is not like BB were we vote to evict someone...we vote to save...So if a pro is forced to leave the show...then I can see no reason why an eliminated pro could`t be brought in as a replacement.....and if given the chance I`am pretty sure Matt C or any pro would jump for joy if given the opportunity of partnering a potential winner.

It is because Matt is considered a contestant as much as Martina (his partner) as the voting was for the PAIR of them and not just to vote out Martina, and to allow him back into the competition after the public had paid money to vote him out would break the terms of phone voting. It would in effect mean that people who voted them out in the first week will be due a refund as their vote will have been made void and adds huge contract problems to the BBC over whether Martina should be re-instated if Matt is.

It would be a different state of affairs if we were just voting out the Celebrities only but unfortunately because of the format of the show the voting clearly states you have to vote to keep "Martina and MATT" in the show.

Once voted out they must no longer participate within the competition and can only dance for entertainment only.

Apparently they have at least 3 male and female pro dancers on standby for emergencies such as injuries, ill health or forced retirements who are extremely good but were not considered to be showing the on-screen qualities of the current professional line-up that would be popular to the audience (not as glamourous/confident on camera/perfectly toned).”

Interesting post - thank you.

Bendy you often hear what's going on in the dance world - have you heard anything? I was told by someone else with dance world contacts it was being said the only fact that NOTW story got right was that Anton did use the word, but the rest was not true.

The NOWT article said he made a public apology. It hasn't made a blind bit of difference.

Anton's position is now untenable. The BBC are just trying to keep him as he hosts Hole in the Wall.

Perhaps he should do it on ITT. It would make his life easier.

I doubt it - those who're determined to hang, draw and quarter him will still be so minded.

Would Laila be out of the show?

I think on DWTS US a pro couldn't continue at some point but I don't follow that series so don't know what the US solution was and if something similar would be implemented here.”

Sadly I think you have just started another Anton bashing thread. I don't think that there was any need to mention him to get an answer to your question.

However with repect to your question, if a male or female pro dancer had an accident and broke a limb or suddeny had to go into hospital or had to visit dying parent and could not dance, then their partner would be left high and dry.

Why should another pro replace the one who left? That pro has already failed and has been eliminated, the vote is for a PAIR of dancers not just the non-pro. All the pros voted off to date have FAILED.

The replacement would have to be an outsider for fairness sake.

When Kelly had to leave her pro partner became redundant. They didn't rush in a replacement for her.

Including this one, 60% (45/75) of the posts on this thread don't address the original question. I'm actually quite surprised, I thought it would be higher.
