Nokia 3510i knocked into toilet, can I have a new phone?
I have just started a T-Mobile contract and got a Nokia 3510i with it. Sadly the phone has been in the wrong side of the toilet bowl and is now responseless save for some slight crackling from the speaker and some screen flashing?
I have (for the purpose of argument) got rid of all my old phones and I "need" this one, I've only just started the 12 month contract and am still well within the 14 days of "cooling time" so if T-Mobile refuse to provide a replacement I could either go with someone else or use an old phone on pay-as-you go. I might in this situation have just cancelled this contract and gone with another provider, but I've built up quite a loyalty discount with T-Mobile from last year's contract and I'm only paying £6.50 a month, I doubt I could get the same rate with Orange/O2/Virgin etc. Does this come under the category of the phone being lost or stolen, will T-Mobile send out a replacement phone if I send the broken one back, what can I do? Thanks |

If you send the phone back during your 'cooling off' period in a damaged state they can charge you for the damage.
If you have insurance with your mobile then check for accidental damage cover. Another option would be to claim on your house insurance, which is what I would consider doing if my mobile wasn't insured with it's own policy. If your insurance doesn't cover accidental damage then you are pretty much stuffed as far as that option goes. And I wouldn't try to lie about the damage either, saying that it just occured and you did nothing to cause it. Water damage shows on the circuits and is obvious and wouldn't normally be covered on the warranty. A slightly dodgey person might deliberately claim it's lost or stolen and get around the insurance that way, but I am sure that as a law abiding citizen you wouldn't do such a thing and I am definately NOT suggesting that you do this either. (it's fruad to do that) |

Well it is officially missing now, at the bottom of the Mersey! Should be even more evidence of water damage when archeologists find it in thousands of years time.

I'm not certain but I don't think lost phones are covered on insurance.

And I know that my home insurance covers my mobile phone should I have it stolen, lost or accidently damage it myself. |

He was absolutely gutted to discover such a travesty could occur, and now hopes that T-Mobile will do the decent thing & give him a replacement to help ease his loss...

the colour screen is piss poor , its not even worthy of being called colour when compared to other phones! the ringtones sound very very tinny!!!. and are a right embaresment. it looks like a charver'/scallie phone! though im on PAYGO 02 and for 7 months now i've been getting free wap for some reason! i wouldnt mind doing a bit of dodgy dealings to get rid of this brick. my neighbour is upgrading to a new handset, he's going to sell me his 7210 for £40!

Sorry sohaib, I've never actually used the site before... Just noticed that they were doing a good deal on the 3510i so thought I'd mention it in case it helped someone.
This site is very good for listing possible deals on phones: http://www.lauriem.plus.com/bargain_basement.html I can't actaully take credit for finding it either, it was another user on here that mentioned it a while ago. Can't actually remember his name, tho... (something like johnnyrotten maybe? Don't really know!) |
