How to get music videos in DVD or HD quality?

I just saw a music video I’d like to own (in DVD quality), but like most songs the video isn’t for sale, so all I have is the low-quality TV version.

Does anyone know any way to get hold of music videos in DVD quality?

Also I’d love to see some music videos in HD but it seems no one is converting them to HD yet. Unless anyone knows otherwise?

I don't think many music videos are filmed in HD, because for the cost it's probably not worth it.

Years ago people used to share music videos online and it was quite easy to get hold of them. With the rise of YouTube no one seems to bother because people watch them on there.

I love quality and I would love to be able to get hold of a load of music videos. Artists often release DVD singles (or once did!) and with greatest hits or special editions they often include videos.

You can find the odd video here and there (illegally) and there's always the evil iTune for not-so-great-quality videos (well, made for the iPod really)

Maybe have a look and see if theres a bootlegs section in the artists forum, on their website? Fans often post music videos and things on the bands sites Im signed up to.
Whats the video you are after?

Actually, the vast majority of all music videos have been shot in HD, because they’re shot on 35mm film, which is extremely high definition. They are then later converted to TV resolution for broadcast.

Just like any movie, they can all be easily converted to HD (or higher resolution) and almost certainly will be one day.

The only difficulty is for videos where:

1. The original film is lost
2. It’s from the late 70s/80s when a lot of music videos were filmed on videotape, which can never be converted to HD
3. There’s a large amount of special effects, which would need completely re-doing for the HD transfer

Not a bad idea, I never thought of that. (The video is “We R One” by Same Difference. I love it!)

You could always say you are a DJ and pay the subscription to that site that sends out DVDs every month with the latest and forthcoming videos on it. Can't remember what it is called but a local DJ here subscribes, it is NOT cheap though.

Or you could do what many people do and nab one of the firefox plug ins that support Youtube's new HQ video streams, letting you download them to your PC.

yea anything shot on film is hd. now whether they kept the material..or would bother with the expense of doing a new transfer is another matter. perhaps for someone like michael jackson there might eventually be. not sure about anyone else, the cost has to be offset by sales. so far there doesn't seem to be much of a bluray market for music video compilations, maybe in the future. i'm sure all new videos are shot digital hd now to cover their backs for future revenue stream.
