The CAM slot works fine here with (official) Canal Digitaal MediaGuard CAM and card in non-freesat mode.
Used to have major problems using these with my Pace 810XE which not only had reception problems on the Canal Digitaal channels themselves but also interfered with other FTA channels. No problems with the Humax PVR though.

I'm a noobie concerning these card.
What exactly can you do with Cam cards? Are they legal and what's the best one to get? Thanx.

CAMs are standard plugin modules to add decryption facilities to a satellite receiver - the CAM module plugs into the STB and then an appropriate matching smartcard (for that type of encryption) plugs into it.

There are no official ones for Sky Digital - but some unofficial ones work with no guarantees! For foreign channels they are either legal - or possibly slightly dodgy if a broadcaster does not want smartcards sold "out of area".You have to buy BOTH an appropriate CAM and the smartcard - so it can get expensive!

My reason for checking this out relates to the English Game coming up as I understand It will be on Al Jazeera Sports (Irdeto CAM and card required unless one has a CAS and MultiCam receiver.) Seems like it may be something to consider and cost out against the SKY sprts package. Looks like a possibility with the HUMAX reading "NightWatchman's comments.

It's one game and you need another dish or a motorized dish to pick it up plus buy the package. Far more expensive than coughing up the fiver to watch it on the web. I wouldn't pay for it on the web so I have three choices.

Watch it for free on Turkish TV assuming a CAM I have gathering dust still opens up something called BISS.

Watch it for free on the web using one of these P2P sites.

Take the dog for a walk and ignore the non event.

Sure - I appreciate the expense for a one off event, but for people like myself who either already have either a motorised, multi- LNB or simply a secondary dish set up, then it does become an option. I installed my setup some years ago and I reckon it's paid for itself several times over since dropping out of contributing to the Murdoch family fortune.
