That's all up for debate.

If it helps, here's the breakdown per series...

Series 1 - 1
Series 2 - 7
Seires 3 - 13
Series 4 - 14
Series 5 - 37
Series 6 - 59

Total 131”

Apart from the fact that the number of contestants has increased year by year from 7 in the first series to 16 last year, I think the judges have just become used to being more generous with their scores. A good performance is seen as "perfect" and given a 10, while of course if that same performance was given by a really good amateur who was near professional standard they most certainly wouldn't get a 10 under normal competition standards. I think the contestants too have come to expect 10s if they're quite good. I remember Tom Chambers last year wondering when and how much he'd have to do to get a 10. He was obviously expecting to get one. We've already had four 9s in week 3. It won't be long till we see our first 10, and it'll be quite meaningless because it'll be followed by loads of others and none of them will be for really perfect dances. They'll just be given for very good ones that really deserve a 9. A 10 should be for the truely exceptional - something quite out of the ordinary and very unusual. Nothing less.

I didn't realise how close the number of 10s given out in Series 3 and 4 were.

Thanks once again for the stats .

But 59 , they should be ashamed of themselves. I know it's got longer but comparing it to series 4 it was only 4 weeks longer, yet the number of has increased to 4 times more than back then.

Just for interest sake, the earliest ten given was in Week 3 of Season 4 to Louisa and Vincent for their jive (by Bruno). So that record lives for another year.

That was always a bit of an anomaly in my eyes.

Deserved for so early on, and given to a dance that had had probably the least amount of training ever. The next early 10 was given to Kelly which is the exact opposite story .

Imagine if Louisa'd had a whole week of training, who knows what it would have been like (not taking their christmas one as an example as that was a bit of a let down).

Another childish post coming up...

I won't be back on this thread as I don't want to be reminded of the travesty that was Series 6. It should be removed from the record books and never referred to again - well T&C's show dance could be mentioned!

I'm interested in whether it will turn out to show a trend or be an anomaly.

And I'm happy to remember people like Jodie from series 6.

I would have added a LOL smiley to my post, but calculator had used the maximum allowed already!

There were many lovely celebs last year and I will fondly remember them, but just won't think about what series they took part in!

The judges just lost the plot.

They did! I'm hoping it was an anomaly, and we'll have more balanced marking this year...

Hopefully if I get a moment tomorrow I'll compare the average scores for the first three weeks over all the series so we can see how the scoring compares. I'll put it up on my stats page.

ETA By three weeks I mean first three dances per couple.

As promised in the above post, here's the average over all series for the first three dances.

Series 1 - 24.61
Series 2 - 23.74
Series 3 - 24.03
Series 4 - 25.60
Series 5 - 26.57
Series 6 - 25.62
Series 7 - 24.91

So, there you go. The marking isn't going up every year (well, at least for the first three dances)

I'll stick a full geeky analysis on the Stat Zone thread

QM, what are you planning to do for your stats when they're out of fifty rather than forty?

Thanks for these .

I think though that these scores show not how high the judges scores, but how many bad dances dragged the scores down. Series 5 started off very well IMO with the lowest score being around 20 for both weeks, the lowest usually being around 16/17.

Will have two sets - real scores and adjusted. Adjusted will be the score divided by five and multiplied by four.

Probably

Yes, that's what I thought you'd do. Thought I might as well keep mine consistent with yours as you're the resident statistician.

Actually Vincent averages 35.33 but he's not dancing the FT tonight.

Does that count Rachel's results as two seperate scores? as if it is Darren's got an unfair advantage .

Yep...3 dances, three scores. If (for some reason) you only want to count one dance with Rachel, Vincent would average 33.00 which is the same as Darren
