It's the only way to stop the X Factor geeting that Xmas number one. Geldof should start thinking about it seeing that this year is the 25th anniversary of the original version.

Yawn.
Why don't we bring back the BB live feed, Carol Vorderman for Countdown and Arlene Phillips while we're at it.

Totally agreed OP, we need an actual Xmas related song for at Christmas. I remember growing up in the 80's & hearing songs from various artists like.

The Pretenders
Paul McCartney
Shakin Stevens
Jona Lewie

Plus countless others, sure they were cheesey as hell, but rather them than some lame ar*ed competition winner.

Leading up to Xmas & on the day itself, the Xmas songs get blasted out with pride & joy while the x factor winner on totp gets stuck by the mute button .

We need cliff Richard and the Shadows for another 'proper' xmas song for the first time in about 20 years.
He hasn't had one in this decade after all I dont think.

Either that or I'd even give in to another kids show like when Cliff lost out to Bob the Builder. Anything apart from X factor. The x factor single is going to get to number 1 when it gets released so why not just let us have a xmas song for xmas. With downloads I'm pretty certain there in fact a fair amount of xmas songs that get fiar way up the charts each year.

I'd rather not have another version of this song, the original is the best. Although, an original christmas song would be better.

Nodody could beat the winner of a show where there could easily be 20 million people watching them get crowned.

The last proper Christmas single in my opinion was The Darkness' 'Christmas Time' back in 2003 - and yet that was beaten to the top by some forgettable, moody, sombre and truly depressing tune by a singer with a grating James-Blunt-type voice.

They should just re-release Band Aid II so we can all have a good old laugh!

should do a new band aid every 10years.

they did mess up band aid 20 though, made it far too slow and dull. Plus half the people in that video can't buy a top10 hit now.

One with 2009 X Factor finalists? Just like the 2003 Pop Idol finalists with their version of Happy Xmas (War is Over)

Yeah, I quite like this song made by them. I also like the one sung by John Lennon and the chorus he had. In regards to a new song being written for Christmas, I really don't think it's a good idea seeing as though the last attempt 5 years ago was a complete waste of time. Sometimes the original version of a song is the only one that matters. They jazzed up the second version way too much - so much so that they wrecked it. Release a 25th anniversary thing, but as far as rewriting another version goes, no. Bad idea.

Edit: I've actually just ordered the John Lennon version as I love it so much.

Nah, it was released on 29 November 2004. It was near enough though.

Also forgot to mention the X Factor last year did a version of Mariah Carey's Hero so who knows if they could do their own version of Do They Know It's Chirstmas.
