I'm sorry to say that 22 year old singer and actress Aaliyah has been killed in a plane crash. I'm not sure when exactly this happened, I have just seen it on ITN.

Aaliyah had a big hit last year in the UK with 'Try Again' and was lined up to appear in 'The Matrix 2'. There's more info at mtv.com.

I think it happened some time yesterday. I saw it there yesterday on the ntlworld homepage and it's in the papers today. She'd just been filming a video in the Bahamas and was flying to Miami when it happened.

It happened Sunday morning.
The plane crashed just after taking off.
Terrible tragedy, especially as she was so young.
Personally I hope the single she was shooting the video for will still be released.
Funnily enough, her single "We need a resolution" re-entered the chart the same day.

I think the box and MTV should put her songs on the playlist as a tribute.

I am still in shock at this terrible news. Losing a young life is tragic enough but such a talent as well. What a waste! Just when she was reaching the peak of her career. I'm sure members of this forum will join me in offering our sincere condolences to her family and friends.

She was on some kinda MTV beautiful women programme yesterday or something.I thought its a bit insensititive putting some1 who just died on a show like this. The show was old but they still couldve edited it or put a message like made before her death on it!

Kiss has added "Try Again" to their playlist, seems to be getting quite a lot of requests.
On the title, it says: Aaliyah [1979-2001 RIP]

Following on from what i said above i get the impression that MTV practically runs itself bar the live shows. The voiceovers for any shows like the text message 1s are all recorded and played every day.

What I heard about Aaliyah untimely death in the plane crash was that they had just finished a video shoot for the video that was going to be her latest single. When they got to the airport to get on her private jet the captain of the plane was worried about the amount of luggage that was being loaded on the plane, but Aaliyah and the other people that were with her said that it all had to go. What I gather from the press reports and the reports on the news websites is that it took off, but the engines failed crash landing at the end of the runway.

What I can gather is that the crash investigators have ruled out any fault with the airplane. So if it was too much luggage on the plane then why didn't she listen to the pilot of the plane.

This is still a same that someone so young has to die this way. I've got her album and it's very good just a same that we couldn't hear more of her.

If other young deaths are an example in music, we haven't heard the last of her music. 2Pac, Notorious BIG, Buddy Holly, and others all had their biggest hits after they died.

By the way, tonight on MTV Base at 7.30 there's a show called The Life of Aaliyah.

And, apparently the pilot was not permitted to fly, and had only just been released from prison for robbery or something.

He was arrested for possession of crack cocaine, a drug you DON'T want your pilot to be involved in if ever there was one!

He wasn't just not permitted to fly, he didn't even have a pilot's licence!

Did the pilot or anybody else die too?

If so, with all due respect it's a bit sad that Aaliyah gets all the attention from the media just because she is in the public eye as a human life is a human life irrelevant of social status.

Actually 8 others died including the pilot, and the crew who were shooting the video. True because of Aaliyah's celebrity status her death has eclipsed the others, and you have to feel for the families of those people as well as Aaliyah's.

Well it's sad that other people died in the plane crash too, but let's face it small planes crash everyday. Should we feel sad and depressed for all of those people too? No.

If i was in an accident with a celebrity I wouldn't expect the media to be interested in me, why would they?
