Saturday 24th April - BBC Five Live

Mike Costello presenting Five Live Boxing from the Messecenter Herning

WBC Super Middleweight Championship - Super Six World Boxing Classic
Mikkel Kessler v Carl Froch - Mike Costello, Richie Woodhall and Steve Bunce (commentary)

Peter Schmeichel was the in-ring post fight interviewer, heard courtesy of Danish TV.

Robin Chipperfield was there for BBC Radio Nottingham, although I don't think he was doing commentary on this fight. If so, it wasn't streamed as the Andre Dirrell fight was, and at one point in his commentary Costello said they were on "Five Live and Radio Nottingham."

An update on this - talkSPORT have not taken any World Snooker Championship updates from the Crucible whatsoever this year.

For as long as I've been a regular listener since the early 2000s, they have had a reporter present at every World Championship and have taken updates from most of the major snooker tournaments, so in my view it is sad that this seems to have come to an end this year.

Making an educated guess as to what has happened here, I suspect the reason why things have changed may be because whichever agency it was that supplied them with reporters at snooker (and PDC darts) tournaments over the years has recently decided to discontinue this service, perhaps due to a lack of interest from other stations outwith talkSPORT.

I know they have stopped taking darts updates from tournaments outside of the World Championship and for the last two snooker ranking tournaments they covered, talkSPORT were doing so by taking updates from a number of their own football reporters rather than from a single dedicated reporter based at the venue as they used to.

A shame for people like me who appreciated being able to get hourly updates on the snooker on their favourite station, but there you go.

Not been listening to much of the BBC Radio coverage of the World Twenty20, but I did catch a bit of Five Live's coverage of the West Indies v England last night, when they simulcasted Sports Extra's commentary on the last few overs of the match just after 10pm.

Jonathan Agnew and Michael Vaughan were commentating on the closing stages, although I'm afraid I don't know who the rest of their team in Guyana were.

Anyone been listening to the Five Live Sports Extra coverage of the World Twenty20 and is able to pass on details of their commentary and reporting team?

I would post the info myself but I don't have a DAB radio and thus haven't been able to listen to much of their coverage.

Five Live Sport weird scheduling desicion #793.

According to the Commentaries page on the Five Live website, Kevin Mitchell's much-anticipated fight to become the interim WBO World Lightweight Champion against Michael Katsidis will be broadcast on Five Live Sports Extra.

However, James DeGale's low key bout with a bus driver for the lightly regarded WBA International Super Middleweight title, which is on the undercard of the Mitchell fight at Upton Park, will be broadcast on Five Live.

I know DeGale's an Olympian, but given the greater interest in Mitchell and the fact he is headlining and fighting a strong opponent for a more prestigious title, I really don't understand why they'd put the former's fight on analogue but the latter only on DAB.

I can only put it down to either a mistake in the schedule or the fact that DeGale is a friend of Five Live presenter Victoria Derbyshire and Mitchell isn't!

Anyone know who the comms for these? I take it Costello will be in NY, Simon Brotherton for the UK based fights?

It seems as if talkSPORT had purchased commentary rights to the final beforehand, but only on the basis that they'd do it if England were to get there.

I was listening to Kick-Off last night and after crossing to Jack Bannister's final report to confirm that England had won their semi-final, Danny Kelly announced there and then that they would be doing live commentary on the final. This was literally moments after England had beaten Sri Lanka.

I guess they must have planned this in advance on the proviso that England would be there, much like how they announce the teams they have Champions League commentaries deals with pretty much immediately after the final qualifying round is concluded most seasons.

According to talkSPORT OB manager "Villa" Matt Smith on Twitter, Sunday's coverage starts at 4pm with their commentary team including Ronnie Irani, Darren Gough, Neil Manthorp and Rupert Bell.

Ronnie has tweeted to say Ian Danter will also be involved in the coverage (I suspect he will be presenting as he usually does on Sunday afternoons).

Their commentators will surely be working off-tube but hopefully they will have access to the official sound feed from Barbados.

It means the schedule for this Sunday on talkSPORT is as follows:

1:00am Duncan Barkes 6:00am Fisherman's Blues with Keith Arthur 8:00am The Weekend Sports Breakfast with Mark Saggers & Micky Quinn 12:00pm Football First on Sunday with Danny Kelly, Alvin Martin & Ray Houghton 4:00pm World Twenty20 Final Live with Ian Danter, Neil Manthorp, Rupert Bell, Ronnie Irani & Darren Gough 8:00pm Andy Goldstein's Sports Bar with Jason Cundy 10:00pm-1:00am The Late Show with Ian Collins.

BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra (and I assume Radio 4 LW) will also carry live commentary on Sunday. 5 Live has commentary of Leicester v Bath instead.

There's been a late change in the Five Live schedule, judging by the commentaries page on their website.

The World Twenty20 Final will now be broadcast on Five Live rather than Sports Extra, with commentary on Leicester v Bath moving in the other direction.

Some more specific details about today's World Twenty20 Final commentary:

Neil Manthorp anchored talkSPORT's coverage but didn't commentate. He presented the half hour build-up, the 15 minutes after the conclusion of the match, between the change of innings and during a lull in play when there was a problem with the side screens.

Their commentary pairings were Ian Danter and Ronnie Irani (overs 1 to 5 and 11 to 15 in both innings), Rupert Bell and Darren Gough (overs 6 to 10 in both innings and 16 to 20 in the Australian innings) and Irani and Gough (over 16 to the end of the England innings).

Jack Bannister wasn't commentating as such but he chipped in to offer analysis about two or three times during each of the five over commentary stints. He also was used in the punditry role during the bits Manthorp was presenting.

Personally, I really enjoyed the talkSPORT coverage - in particular I thought Ian Danter was superb. As far as I know he'd never covered cricket professionally until today, but having read interviews with him it's clear he's a big cricket fan and his enthusiasm for and knowledge of the game shone through.

Not sure why they paired Ronnie and Goughy at the end, perhaps something was up with Rupert - I noticed his voice was struggling at points during his commentary stints - or maybe it was by design as they wanted to have both their "star names" on at the conclusion.

Otherwise I thought the pairings were sensible with the two main commentators matched with the summarisers. However it was quite a contrast to hear the incredibly posh Bell matched with Goughy, who is ever so slightly less well spoken!

For those who like to know this kind of thing, to my ears it sounded as if they were using the official stadium feed rather than canned crowd noises.

I have one criticism of talkSPORT's coverage today as I'd have liked it if they'd have stayed on air for a phone-in or some kind of reaction for a little while afterwards rather than crossing straight to the Sports Bar at 8pm. Given that Manthorp can't have been on-air for more than an hour max, it might have been worth his while to keep him on to do a special Cricket Show between 8-10pm like the ones he did last summer.

Anyone know how BBC Radio 4 LW/Five Live covered the final?
