As Gloucester are playing South Africa (well a XV Select) tomorrow, I wonder if BBC Radio Gloucestershire will do anything?

That looks like a BBC Radio Wales commentary team - both commentators are Welsh and work/have worked for that station (Devereux is a Scrum V Radio regular, while Hughes is talkSPORT's Welsh football reporter but was a football commentator for Radio Wales in past years).

Interesting choice, any idea why Radio Manchester have gone with that pairing rather than some of their usual guys?

Well John Devereux has Rugby League connections up here having played for Widnes in the early 1990s for 6 years.

Roger Hughes did a Rugby League game for Radio Merseyside when Widnes played a welsh side a couple of years back. He used to commentate on Liverpool & Everton for Radio Merseyside as well in the past so I guess he's a freelance option in the south wales area for stations up here.

Radio Manchester cover every Sale home game (mostly online only) but rarely do away games. They give Sale FM coverage on the Friday Sports show when the Rugby League is not being featured and thats why they are covering the game tonight. On a Saturday or Sunday though they would generally not bother to do an "Online Only" away commentary, instead directing fans to the local bbc station that the game is being played at.

Sometimes they have aired the commentary from for example BBC Leicester when Sale visited Leicester but doesn't seem Radio Wales are covering the match tonight so they didn't have that choice. Not sure heavy welsh accents would go down to well on the station anyway.

Devereux had two years at Sale aswell apparently so that's the link in using him.

If you think those 2 speak heavy, don't even think about going down to Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire then!!

Both men live in the South Wales area, and it would've been a sensible option. Roger Hughes is freelance and does a lot of work in print media as well.

Devereux isn't tied down by his Radio Wales work either, and has done at least one gamecovering the Celtic Crusaders for Sky Sports, and also gave his views on a Welsh rugby feature for ITV Wales News once earlier this year.

Rugby League Four Nations: England v New Zealand
BBC 5 Live Sports Extra: Stuart Pyke (England Possession), George Riley (NZ Possession) & Ian Millward (Second Half Only)

Only Second Half coverage of this although Radio Sport New Zealand are taking full match commentary with the above commentators.

Sports Extra choosing to go with Wales v NZ union coverage even though Wales have their own national station and the game is on BBC 2 anyway whilst Rugby League is on Sky. Typical BBC! Thats why Sports Extra only has second half commentary.

I thought I'd add that Ron McIntosh was hosting and who was actually fighting (in case someone looks at this thread in months/years to come and is wondering) for posterity. No offence intended to Arthur, just wanted to make the addition.

I'm a stickler for completeness - sorry if that's a problem.
