H Symbal on screen
I have an SE C905 & displaying on the screen next to the signal strength is a box with "H" in it, it fluctuates between a H & 3G, mostly showing "H" anyone known what the "H" means please?
thanks Steve |

Its HSDA or HSPDA (not sure atm!)
Basically, its what the phone uses for data transfer when there is not a full 3g signal. |

HSDPA to 3G is essentially what GPRS was to GSM.
GSM: 2G GPRS: 2.5G EDGE: 2.75G UMTS: 3G HSDPA: 3.5G Technically though, 2G (second generation) is the name attached to GSM, GPRS and EDGE, where as 3G (third generation) is the name attached to UMTS and HSDPA. |

Ok, fair do! Im not sure where I got the idea that the phone "dropped down" to HSDPA if there was not a full 3G signal.
My bad! |

Thanks all, so when the symbol changes from "H" to 3G, 3G is slower than "H"?

I thought H+ indicated HSUPA (or HSPA) and H was HSDPA.
HSDPA 3.6mb (H) HSUPA 7.2mb (H+) |

But surely they are VERY different things. HSDPA relates to stuff coming to the phone, HSUPA relates to stuff going from the phone.

However, the improvements which give a faster upload also enable a faster download.
From what you are saying, when T-Mobile became the first HSUPA-enabled network we'd all have seen an increase in our download efficiency. Which isn't the case. What did improve download efficiency was upgrading the HSDPA network. |
