About 15 years ago when I was a kid I recorded a tune off Radio 1 on to a cassette. When the tune had finished the presenter said it was called "Shay Gate." I don't know if that's who it's by or the name of the track. I think it's the name of the track but I can't find out who it's by. I've Googled all variations of the name and found nothing. It's instrumental synthesiser stuff so It's harder to find without any words to go by. Sounds a bit jean Michelle Jarre but I'm pretty sure it's not him.

2 Years ago I went on Kazza and put the word "Shay Gate" in and eventually found the track I was looking for. However the file just says "Shay Gate.mp3" It has NO i.d tags to identify who it's by or anything.

HERE is a link to download the file and see if you can recognise it. I'd appreciate it if anyone knows who it's by and if Shay Gate is really it's propper title cos I've been pulling my hair out for years trying to find out. Every thime I Google Shay Gate I get some riding school in Yorkshire.

I don't know it and I have a huge collection of electronic stuff. Doesn't sound anything like Kraftwerk though.

It's by the band Hawkwind (technically just by Harvey Bainbridge), and it's technically space rock. The track is actually called "Shade Gate" and that comes from the term given to define a type of portal in the books about Elric of Melniboné by the fantasy writer Michael Moorcock. You can find the complete track on Hawkwind's record The Chronicle Of The Black Sword, which is a whole concept album on Elric Of Melniboné. Hope that helps - I know how frustrating that kind of thing can be!

Thanks I'll look it up later. I may have to buy the album cos i'm all into concept albums like Tommy, DSOM and Nut Gone Flake etc not to mention many prog rock stuff so I'll look forward to checking it out. Again thanks, it's never easy finding instrumentals when you don't know what they're called. Especially when I got the title wrong. I guess it's easy mistake to make tho given it was on the Jo Whiley show about 15 years ago. She did a whole show all about sci-fi music which I taped when I was about 16.
