Pro logic 2 query
Hi,
I have an all in one Philips HTS3568 (Please don't slate me as i can't afford seperates ) which is connected up to my Sky HD & PS3 via optical, anyway my query is that whilst it is on PL11 the sound comes out nice & crisp through the front & centre speakers but sounds muffled through the rear speakers, is that normal ? When it is on stereo mode it comes through fine on all the speakers ![]() Hope my post makes sense Steve |

When it is on stereo only, it should only come out of your front two speakers. Stereo has no centre speaker or rear speaker signal.

Dolby Pro Logic can create a sort of surround sound image from Stereo. Though whether you believe the hype from Dolby or not is your business
![]() http://www.dolby.com/consumer/techno...i-details.html Obviously it can be a bit of a lottery as to how good it is. You can actually encode using Pro Logic as well as decode it. Some TV programmes used it, seem to recall several episodes of Taggart on ITV sporting the Dolby logo. That would give better results than just processing a raw stereo signal. |

When it is on stereo mode it comes through fine on all the speakers ![]() PLII is a bit hit or miss. It can sound very good on some TV sources (especially films), but is usually to be avoided for music. |

There is no reason for rear channels to be muffled although they wont be as active as the front ones unless you are using a full 5/6.1 track from DD or DTS. I would say to check the sound levels on all speakers to see if they are balanced correctly. The 5/6 channel stereo mode will make the rear channels far busier than normal PL2 will from a standard source. |

Hi,
Thanks for all your replies, had a play around with the settings tonight & am currently watching flash forward & listening through PL11 & it sounds really good & is coming out of all speakers. Because i have a 27 foot lounge i have also turned the volume ( not sure if that's the right term) on the rear speakers & i think i now have the sound levels right. I also agree with the listening to music comment as i was playing some music through the PS3 earlier & tried the 3 options i have which are stereo, PL11 & party & the party mode sounded far superior to the others. Many thanks again, Steve |

Some music and radio is broadcast/recorded in Dolby Pro Logic. It can be a bit of a lottery, but on the whole I find DPLII to be pretty good, and rarely change to other settings. The idea of a "party mode" makes me shiver!
