I first got my V Box as one of the original subscribers. Is the box "future proof" as I first thought ! Will it be capable of DVB-T2/MPEG-4 and be able to receive HD transmissions ?
All answers acceptable except negative ones (you know what I mean). Thanks. Alan.

No chance sir. There's currently no hardware on the market that can decode DVBT2. It can decode DVB-T HD transmissions but thats only used on the continent and it takes up much more bandwidth which why the UK didnt go with it.

There's a faint hope with the Vbox 2 but as usual no-one knows until full specs are announced.

Vbox2 will undoubtedly support HD. To launch a new box which will be around for the next 4-5 years and for it not to support at least Freeview HD or Freesat HD would be beyond belief.

as webber says, still waiting on info on the the 2nd generation of Vision STBs.

from my understanding it will be shipped with 2x DVB-T tuners but BT will release an upgrade module to swap them out for DVB-T2 tuners. its a PACE box, and pace themselves said it can and will do that.

forgotten the source but read it on a well known site.

apparently. as its not going to be ready from the start, so they want to get bt vision 2 out then work on the DVB-T2.

I might be being too optimistic towards BT in my response here, but I've personally always found them to be very helpful.

As long as you have an ongoing BTV contract I would think it was in the interest of BTV to exchange your box if it is not capable of some new updates or if it's not 'future proof'.
As you are an original subscriber & still subscribing (?) I can't imagine there being any excuse not to exchange it for a new one. The cost of a new box to BT compared to the cost of a happy subscriber who will probably continue using BT Vision has got to be negligible.
At the end/start of a new contract would be almost fail-proof in this approach, I would think, but anytime might work if the box isn't doing the best it can for you.
