Opera Mini issue

Does anyone have a problem connectin using Opera mini?

Normal Wap connects virtually all the time, whereas through Opera mini it only connects with a 3.5G signal, hardly even a 3G signal.

Any thoughts on why?

By "Normal WAP" do you mean the browser built-in to your handset? If so, it may be that you have to tell the handset which settings to use for java apps. If you tell us which phone you have and what the error message you get is, then we can help you.

(Note that the internet settings are the same for 3G, GPRS, HSDPA etc, If Mini is only working on HSDPA then your service provider may be having a problem - again, posting the error message will enable us to tell)

thanks for the swift reply!

By normal wap I mean..not 3g or 3.5g, just a normal connection (the sort of three pronged symbol in corner).

There is no error message...it just struggles to load pages..just says "loading" until a 3g signal appears then the loading bar starts to fill up...then a 3.5g signal appears and the page loads super fast.

This does not occur with the WAP browser.

I have a Nokia N95

By WAP browser, do you mean the browser built into the phone?

From what you say, it sounds like a problem with your service provider not handling the transfer of the data connection between GPRS/3G.

Who is your service provider?

No, the internal browser and Opera Mini connect to different ports.
Many people have reported this issue with 3 and not just with Mini but other java apps and email etc. It seems to be due to handing over to their 2G partner.

You may get some improvement if you go into Opera Mini's settings and change the connection method from Socket to HTTP.
Good luck with it.

Thank very much for that. The change in setting fixed it.. still not perfect, sometimes takes a while to load but it works!

Thanks again

Opera Mini is always a tad slow to load.

I use it on a Samsung U600 with a 2G EDGE connection and for some reason sometimes it reinstalls itself or loses bookmarks etc.

Unfortunately, that's due to Opera Mini being killed rather than closed via MENU>EXIT. The java system in the U600 is not up to much and causes data corruption. You can minimise this happening by always using Menu>Exit and using the old 3.12 version of Opera Mini.
