I think Wino went on to give the girl a bit of support/confidence?
She has before....

Daily Mail, Sept 28th 2008:
It was a high society ball attended by a host of VIPs in their most glamorous gowns. But somehow Amy Winehouse didn’t get the dress code quite right. Wearing scruffy animal print shorts, the troubled star looked shockingly skinny and ill as she performed atthe End Of Summer Ball in London’s Berkley Square last night.
The troubled star embarrassed herself by ruining her 12-year-old goddaughter’s debut singing performance and lashing out at a photographer before collapsing and sobbing: ‘Life can’t go on. I can’t do this any more.’ The singer was at the Berkeley Square in Mayfair to provide backing vocals for her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield. But onlookers were shocked at how out of it Amy was, and the audience at the charity bash cringed as she grabbed and hugged Dionne as she tried to perform. We’re told: ‘It was tragic — she seemed totally wasted. She was jumping all over Dionne as the poor girl tried to sing for the crowd. Amy didn’t really sing a single note — it sounded more like she was grunting down the mic.’
At the end of the performance, Amy’s backing singer told the crowd: ‘Isn’t she great? She’s only 12-years-old!’ But Amy crowed: ‘She’s better than you — it doesn’t matter how old she is.’ She then roamed from table to table, demanding to meet famous people. Our spy said: ‘Amy was then asked to pose for the event’s official photographer, but flipped and tried to headbutt him. She looked like a woman possessed.’ She arrived at her Camden home at the end of the night with only one shoe and looking horribly dishevelled.

That whole slot seemed weird. The song was ridiculously repetitive and indeed downright boring. It was also performed rather poorly. I was rather hoping the point the young girl was on primetime television was that we were to witness an exceptional talent. Even making allowances for nerves, which shouldn't be necessary for someone booked for that slot, what we actually witnessed seemed to me to be at best a rather ordinary performance for a girl her age. I just don't get it.

It would also perhaps have been better had they not focussed on the presence of Amy Winehouse, who was just one of the backing vocalists and appeared the least able of them by far.

Eh? No, she wasn't. It WAS meant to be like that. I think Wino went on to give the girl a bit of support/confidence?
Oh. Like many people, I'd heard AW was to be on SCD, I'd heard no mention at all that she'd be in the background.
BTW, 'tragic' wasn't a condemnation, it was sadness for someone who, if the papers are to be believed, has been rather chewed up and spat out by stardom.

Amy Winehouse is in such a state - I find it quite sad.

Liked her god daughter's voice, although wasn't wowed, and LOVED Matt and Aliona. Could have done without seeing Winehouse struggling to stand up in the background.

Strictly need to sort their celebrity guests out. Jamie Cullum was fantastic but the last two weeks have been dire.

I think it was advertised slightly oddly. Even on DS the headline was "Winehouse to appear on Strictly" - though the article made it clear it was supporting Dionne.

All of it was quite embarassing IMO.

Like a famous version of Britains Got Talent, yet one of the crapper acts .

I know, but it's a sad situation to say the least.

I absolutely adore AW's talent but she really shouldn't be wheeled out like this - its a freak show. What on earth is a 13 year old doing on SCD? She's a reasonable singer but she should be doing what normal 13 years old do and getting better not being paraded like this. It's a tough trade. Look what happened to her Godmother!
She has a record contract - she is going to have to appear on TV.

Didn't do Michael Jackson or Britney Spears any harm now did it?

Well I hope the content of the album is more interesting than that song!

Didn't do MJ and BS any harm? Do you live on the same planet as I do? MJ is dead at 50 and BS screwed up with glimmers of hope. Oh, their bank accounts are full, no doubt. That's not a lot of good when you're dead or seeing pigs flying past you though, is it?

What a comeback !! Not...
Her niece (or whatever relation to her she was) was fab but all Amy did was wave her arms around, probably thinking it was all about her. So cringe-worthy !

The girl wouldn't have got near the show if Winehouse wasn't part of the ratings-chasing deal, let's be honest. She was decent but nothing remotely special.

I'm pretty sure the girl who did the lead singing should have been doing the backing singing but Amy was too out of it to do the show properly and the girl stood in with Amy doing the backing vocals, which she could just about manage I suppose.

In fact, I'd put money on it.

Dionne was announced to appear as lead with Amy on backing - it was even a DS story. There was no standing in.

No indeed, the mystery of the deflating boobs! She looked as emaciated and flat-chested as usual. Another reliable story from the tabloid press...

I've never liked her and tonight was just rubbish. Surely the BBC can get better acts? It made me think fondly of Andy Williams and I never thought I'd ever say that.

I agree. The girl's singing was okay but hardly worth showcasing on SCD!

Amy Winehouse seems to be trapped in the 1960s. I've never seen any women with a beehive hairstyle. I know she's had a rotten year or so - a few months ago she looked like death barely warmed up - she was dreadfully thin and hooked on drugs (the photos are on Google if you wanna be shocked by how bad she looked) but she does look healthier now and she has plans to release a new album next year.

The young girl only got on prime tv because of the winehouse link, she wants to have a good look at her god mother as a warning of the pitfalls that await in the music business. Amy and andy Williams the gruesome twosome of the music world.
