'Chippy' as in they all seem to have a permanent king size chip on their shoulders re the English, as do the other celtic nations. The Scot's more so, the Irish a lot lot less.

I agree. I could understand why John was saved last year for the first few weeks at least, but I really don't understand how Joe continues to survive.

Joe is like my husband, can't hear the beat in the music no matter what. He can't dance either (and he's had lessons). So whoever votes for him is not fair on all the others (including those who have already left 'cept Dunwoody who was as bad) who can keep time and can produce something akin to a dance.
Sorry to answer the question...John S. as he could keep time.

He must be one of the all-time worst dancers on SCD. I think his big problem is he can't give a performance. Even if you're terrible with the moves, at least try and act the dance, give it some oomph. He plods around with little or no performance. I'm sure he'd improve if he had some basic actor training, just to help him feel less self-conscious. But as for the actual dancing, he's not blessed with any talent for it!

Have the judges learned one thing from last year, though - I haven't heard them moaning about "how terrible it is that the wrong people are in the dance-off" - or was it later in the series that they started doing that with JS?

I agree, I mean he messed up even the few steps he attempted. No way did that deserve a 6 from Len . He seems even to have a dulling effect on Kristina, who was great last year with John Sergeant, but since she teamed up with him she seems to have lost her charm.

I agreed John was a much better dancer than Joe. John had more rhythm, style and was better entertainment. I voted for John last year but can not see myself voting for Joe, unless he makes a vast improvement.

I don’t think Joe will win it, but I do think he will stay around for a few more weeks yet. I believe it is slightly easier for those people at the bottom of the scoreboard to stay in this year, (because of the new allocation of points and so many people getting the same score).

I was SO prepared to like this guy, but it's true! He can't dance, he can't hear the music and he has no potential whatsoever. And - even worse - he's probably a really nice guy but there's no projection whatsoever. On TV he comes across as an absolutely personality-free zone.

Meh.

Even when (in his own opinion) he's trying his best, Joe is an awful dancer. But the unpredictable GBP will probably keep him in until near the end or until he does a John Sergeant and quits.

Joe is far worse. No rhythm, no musicality, no effort. Nowt.

Plus he is obviously fit so where's the energy?

Kristina hangs off him like a bedraggled mouse. She needs to get a grip as well.

Of course the English are nothing but polite and respectful to their neighbours...

Ok i shall try & explain this to u ... Wales has a Population of 2.9 million (2001 census) ..

London/Greater London has a population of 7.5 million (2006)
These stats don't even include, Scotland or Northern Ireland. Let alone the rest of England.

Now even if every person in Wales watched & voted & kept their finger on redial it still wouldnt make much of a difference.

Does the whole of the UK watch SCD ? No i very much doubt they do .. Or is it just the odd English man here and there that watches?

Maybe no Scots watch ? Maybe no Northern Irish watch ?

Prehaps u are the only English person watching ??? Maybe thats how the whole of Wales votes for Joe ...

And "every year" someone like me will tell you you're wrong!
It is mostly a popularity contest until the last few programmes.
Each week viewers are encouraged to vote for their favourites or who they want to save.
I've watched nearly every programme of every series and I don't care who wins, nor have I ever voted. I'm sure many like me just watch it for the entertainment value.
Hardly worth getting worked up over the "injustices" of the voting habits of the public, is it?

I'm completely baffled as to how he's still in the competition - or even as to how he hasn't even been in the dance-off - no matter how you regard Strictly.
If you see it as a dance contest, he is the worst dancer in the competition! If you see it as a popularity contest... what makes him so popular?! Nobody I know rates him on the show. He has as much charm on-screen as the hat stand, Yucca plant, and flag pole mentioned by the OP!

I have to say that I agree with Caliban.
His dancing speaks for itself.
But he doesn't appear to be especially engaging as a person so why is he still in????

I thought Joe did improve slightly this week whereas Lynda and Craig seemed a little bit worse if anything.

Is Joe worse that John S.? I don't know but it doesn't really matter. What matters is that a weaker contestant continues to be voted out each week leaving the better dancers to fight it out for those final places.

It really doesn't matter to me what order the weak and mediocre dancers leave. It will only start to irritate me if we get two really strong couples in the dance off before all the deadwood has left.

Completely agree with the above.

Err..

"Simples!"

Lots of Welsh people phoning up and voting for him, 'cos he to them is a "hero."

The same way people vote for Jo Wood as they don't like the way Ronnie Wood dumped her for a twenty-year-old.

Nothing to do with ability.

I'm amazed how some people still don't understand the mind-set of some of those who phone in their votes, after how many years?

Joe clearly clearly lacks any sense of rhythm or musicality ..things I don't believe can be taught ?
My advice would be to just go out there and enjoy himself, fake it as best he can and show some personality.
However, he did improve 100% from previous weeks..but that's not saying much.

ps..anyone think Joe's dad was probably a better dancer..judging from his short appearance in training ?

well I'm not welsh.

i voted for Joe.

i have had the privilege of meeting him many times and he is one of the nicest men you could ever hope to meet.

i realy don't want to be blamed for name dropping or anything like that but in all fairness to Joe he is trying and it is not his fault he is still their.

i have also met a couple of muppets on scd as well and to look at them butter wouldn't melt in their mouths.
