From the lousy entertainers to Bruce's embarrassing "jokes", I've really gone off SCD.

Andy William's voice is long past it's best, and as for the 2 tap dancers last night - they were like uncoordinated cart horses.

Bruce was humiliating Jo Wood when he made a comment about losing a stone.

And what was Lynda's dress all about? That pink corset dress made her look like a badly stuffed sausage, totally unflattering.

Bruce's "losing a Stone" joke was embarrassing.

When you compare the US version to the English one, ours looks like a tatty end of Pier show and Z list celebrities, and appalling host and air...sorry hostess, a lacklustre band with only one decent singer, frightful wardrobe, naff tunes and a set that looks as though it's about to fall over.

I am bored to death by it, and I am a dance lover.

i havent gone off it one iota but i do agree that lynda's dress was terrible - they dont know how to dress bodies that aren't 25 and thin..
i didnt like the tap dancers either but that's an aquired taste.
but for me its the scoring that's killing the show.. they will all be on 10s in week 5 at this rate. then what? i do wonder they will end scd after this year...

Two hours is far too long, especially with Bruce's crummy 'jokes' to fill in the gaps.

I have never seen tap dancers struggle to get out of American Splits before. They're usually up in one beat, but they took two last night and even that was a struggle. Now I'd normally brush over this, but if it's not your best move then why repeat it 3 times?

Overall though I still love Strictly. It's aimed at a completely different audience to DWTS. SCD doesn't try to be slick - it's meant to be a family show for the evening with a bit of feel good factor. It's still got the magic of the couples' journeys and that is the most important thing to me as a viewer. I can take or leave everything else. Somewhere along the line I think people started taking the show too seriously, but strip away all of the controversy and over-analysis and it's still great TV. I don't think there's much chance of it ending yet.

Having said all of that, there is a lot of room for improvement and Bruce's 'joke' about Jo wood made me cringe half way into the sofa. Never bring up weight - it is NEVER funny.

I'm not "weightist" but frankly making a "joke" about her weight would have been preferable to making a joke about her husband dumping her for a totty.

Not sure Jo's weight was the issue here....

Yesterday afternoon I watched part one of a programme called "Bruce goes Dancing" which was all about the history of popular dance. Bruce was the presenter and he was brilliant. It was an excellent programme. Part two is on this afternoon 3.55 pm BBC1. perhaps watching that will cheer you up?

Half the audience didn't get the rolling stone reference, and most of those that did didn't find it funny.
Bruce: if someone doesn't laugh at your joke, repeating it does not make it any funnier.

It's too long. Cutting to 2 or 3 judges' opinions was a good move last week.
Cut out the jokes, Brucie-boy. Especially those "I was reading up on blah de blah...."
STOP NOW. Not funny.

I want to see the dances and the training. It's not a comedy vehicle for B Forsyth.

I thought the stone joke was terribly crass but who knows who actually wrote it?

With Brucie, his ad libs show he can still be very sharp and funny, but the material he's given is not good at all.

On the bright side, I thought the singers were good last night. They've got a new lady in I think.

The show is too long for the casual viewer though. I'm not sure if it would be better to have the results show on really late on Saturday (and say goodbye to the family audience) or move it back to Sunday...

I find the judges go on too long. I watched Strictly until 8pm last night and taped the rest so I could watch the X Factor.
I found when I came to watch what I had taped after the contestants had finished other than for Amy Winhouse and her god daughter Dionne I fast forwarded through the rest until the dance off.
Just find it all a bit long and drawn out. Mind so was the X factor last night as well.

I know people like coming on to DS to have a good moan / bitch / whine. Any long term lurker here will understand that. But I SERIOUSLY wonder why (if you really hate it that much) you bother watching at all!

If I start a book and can't get into it I stop reading it, and pick another one.

If I'm watching a film and am not enjoying it I will recline the chair and snooze (if the family like the film) or turn it off.

If I'm not enjoying whatever is on the TV I channel hop, or turn the thing off and go and do something else.

Even accounting for the fact that some are happiest when moaning to a huge audience, WHY watch it if you hate it that much?? Turn the box off, watch the other side, go down the pub, rent a video or even (heaven forbid) just have a conversation with a real person.

There is more to life than watcing reality TV and then spending hours moaning about it. Get a life!

I think most people LOVE SCD. The reason we still watch it is because we are hoping against hope that it will improve. Yes Brucie is annoying and yes the show does go on too long but all the fantastic dances and fabulous dresses outweigh the bad things about the show.

Its like a drug...you love it, you know its not quite hitting the mark, but you stick with it! If everyone turned off the minute they didnt like a show then there would be no one watching anything!

Trouble is, there is no pleasing people then .... people complain about the Sunday show, they complain if the Saturday results are on too late, they complain about a recorded show, they complain about the length of the show ......

There is always going to be someone who will be annoyed/aggrieved/upset/bored whatever format is used.

Precisely.

Although it looks to me like they should have just left the Sunday results show where it was. People may have whinged about it but the ratings seemed to show it worked.

Most posters seem to like the show but dislike some parts of it.

They do not hate the entire show so there is no reason for them to stop watching it.

My husband does one or two things that irritate me but that does not mean I do not enjoy being married to him.

I thought the look of complete bafflement that Kristina gave Bruce when they arrived at the judges table to get tongue lashed again...but Bruce suddenly launched into an advert for a football match just about summed up how I am feeling now.

Good post and I totally agree.

I now find myself boycotting the main board and sticking to the Appreciation threads as there are far many negatives posts.
I love the show and I love Brucy and quite frankly I find it all very depressing on here.

*pops back to the AT threads for some positive chats about dance*
