The BBC still don't get it, do they?

Exactly!

If we start talking about nepotism and the BBC (and other channels) we'll be here all day.
Professionals dancing to this looked daft.

So...how many hits does a person have to have had before they are allowed to appear on Strictly? 1? 5? 20. How many Grammys must they clutch?

Let's take Amy out of the equation for a second.

Which is one of Strictly's main demographic? Children of course. So along comes a 13 year old who is getting a lot of media exposure, tipped for big things and sings happy songs. How brilliant for some of the viewers to have someone of their own age group perform just as she's about to become a big star.

Would people have a problem with that?

So, add to that the fact that she happens to have a famous auntie (who has started a record label especially to release Dionne's material such is her faith in her neice). And famous auntie want to come on the show as well to sing backing vocals. What are they going to do, turn her down?

Finally on the point of "the dancers couldn't dance to it" it's not up to the BBC to specify that an artist can't sing their current single cause it's not a cha cha. Could you imagine "Sorry Mr Williams. We're having problems coming up with a dance to Moon River. Do you know anything by S Club 7?"

Err... It ain't "Top of the Pops."

It's about suitable choice of artist and tune.

They could choose something that leant itself more to dance.

Like this for example.

She was better than Andy Williams last week too.

There was a perfectly good "big band" in the studio, with three quite accomplished singers, (when not frequently given "non dance band" tunes to sing beyond their normal range).
Here, was an ideal opportunity for the band to play and the singers to sing a classic recognised ballroom dance tune instantly recogniseable by the majority of the audience.

Nothing againsst the kid, she wasn't bad, but no more than "average" and her abilities undeserving of a prime-time spot on TV.
In my recollection, they've never "showcased" the band and singers properly.
But that's probably because the BBC doggedly always want to "engage" the younger, many non-licence paying viewers, who are probably down the pub on Saturday nights.”

Perhaps they did it to cause a reaction - like someone starting a thread about it?

I'm sure you are being obtuse on purpose but artists go on shows to plug their new records. What else do you expect them to do?

Exactly, I find the criticism of this little talented girl in the show very disturbing.

Who would they expect to be on the show?

I thought she was good, too, and I thought it showed that Amy W doesn't have an ego problem if she's happy to be a backing singer.

For those who thought the kid was too young - she's the same age as Lulu was when she started out.

she was a good singer, but that ain't the point, the point is that this years SCD is very below par and the Amy Winehouse appearence disappointing as she didn't do a number herself, if the BBC don't do a better job with next years contestents(ie no B and C list celebs) then SCD is dead in the water!

Hmm..

There seems to be an "X-factor mentality" developing here.
Yes she wasn't bad, although I thought she was a bit off key at the start of the song, but really, if some thought she was good, by what standards?
I bet there are at least a hundred other girls of a similar age who'd have done as well given the chance.
It was only on the level of "remembering the lines and not bumping into the furniture."

This girl wouldn't have got on if she wasn't Amy Winehouse's niece.”

I agree.

People do rather seem to get worked up over nothing these days. There must not be anything else going on the world more worthy of attention.
