I know, it's almost as bad as her grammar

I'm sure Andrew Castle probably won't sue for emotional distress but she might well alienate the people who voted for him, just a bit.

Ironically, it seems Alesha's ability to critique a specific move in a routine exceeds the ability of many posters on here to even recognise the move itself. Perhaps passing judgement on others is best left to those on the panel...

On the first show I thought she'd started off really weak, but then there was a huge amount of pressure on her. However, she then seemed to get so much better over the next couple of shows and I was finally starting to take her opinion on board and accepting her as a judge.

Hate to be picky, but that's grammar. I don't like bad grammar or bad spelling.

That should also be "colleagues", "Saturday night" "arrogant" and "weakly".

I wouldn't normally bother, but in this case I think it's justified.

Go for it.

Whilst we're at it, it's hardly wonderful grammar to use LOTS OF CAPITALS and multiple!! exclamation!!! marks!!!! in your sentences.

Again, glass houses, stones.

Alesha can critique a specific move in a routine, all she likes - after all it is her job. But to attribute poor moves to a specific dancer (when plenty of others have done it before and after) is pretty poor form...

The irony is hilarious

Have you got nothing better to do? But if want me to retaliate....

I didn't criticise her ability to type/spell/form correct grammatical statement's in online forum's, just to speak properly whilst presenting a mainstream television show.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I don't think she started well, then I believe she improved and was doing well, but now I think she's going a bit over the top. Get over it, it's just an opinion.

I'm not sure I'd describe that move as a 'gimmick.'

I remember Mel B using it throughout one of her routines on DWTS and she was praised for it. And Natalie and Vincent incorporated it into their dance at the weekend and it worked well.

I think what Alesha was trying to say was that Ricky W did little else.

I agreed with the point she was making but she put it across badly. There was no need to run down Andrew Castle in the process given she's made it clear that her role is to be supportive of the celebs.

Agree with this.

The "Andrew Castle" comment sounded very bitchy, and I was actually quite shocked to hear it from Alesha.

I disagree, I think it's a fair comment. What is unfair in my view is to single that comment out for criticism when there is already a well established precedent for it.

Leaving aside the point that she's not presenting the show, based on your posts I'm struggling to see how you can have an informed opinion on whether she's speaking properly or not. Glass houses and all that.

The BBC call her a 'presenter' and whether or not my grammar/spelling is up to scratch does not mean I cannot have a valid opinion on whether basic grammar is necessary on a primetime Saturday night show.
For me (and a lot of other people on many other forums) repeatedly saying 'you was' instead of 'you were' is not ok.

Anyhow, seeing as that wasn’t even the point being made, or of the thread, it doesn’t really matter. Moving on……

I assume there's an invisible "you" in there?

I assume you meant "statements" and "forums"?

The two mentions of previous contestants stuck out in my mind, but i thought it looked more like she was trying to prove she had seen every show and that made her a better judge.

I didn't like the comments she made, but did think Ricky's dance was not as good as expected.

(I've spell checked everything so the spelling police should be happy lol)

I don't think that specific comment was particularly well judged but the same could be said for comments from other judges.

However, in more general terms, Alesha is just as irksome as Arlene (albeit in different ways) and there's no sign yet that her appointment has improved the judging in any important respect.

Yeah, maybe.

Actually what annoyed me was the fact that she still gave him an 8.

Just to clarify - it's normally extremely poor form to pick posts apart for grammar / spelling / punctuation.

However, when the post itself is picking apart someone else's use of language, it's reasonable.

The test will really come in a few weeks time when the decent dancers and fan favourites start to be in danger and Jo/Joe is still there, and the "purity of dance" vs "sticking it to the judges" brigades in the audience really start to grind each other's gears.

If the presence of Alesha softens that particular farce, then however irritating and/or dull she is, it'll have been worth it. I'm fairly sure that's why she's there.

I didn't mind the fact that she was using past contestants as examples, but it was her choice of example that puzzled me a bit.

Andrew Castle was neither great nor absolutly rubbish. It seemed to me though that she was obvious quite set against Andrew in the last series to use him in the comment.

It's not the first time she's done it either, remember when she said 'It's good to see Anton with someone who can dance' referencing his previous partners.

But remember he got really far with Patsy Palmer (can't remember if it was the quarter or semi finals)

I just think she is trying to prove that she has always been a fan of Strictly by referencing previous series!

It's amusing to see people picking apart Yulstar's spelling for a WHOLE PAGE. He still isn't making the level of mistake that Alesha is. And he's still right.

People are determined to see things which aren't there IMO. She wasn't being nasty at all and I'm sure Andrew took it with good humour.

To be honest, it did make me wonder whether Andrew has made a negative remark about Alesha being on the panel, and if so, whether Alesha was getting her own back (albeit unwisely IMO).
