Benidorm series link

I noticed last night that my Humax started recording the 2nd episode of Benidorm on ITV2 even though I had only set to record the series on a Friday night on ITV1.

It then also proceded to record the 3rd repeat on ITV2+1

Any ideas why ?

This is usually because ITV have used a different prog crid for the repeats so the box thinks it's a new episode.

I assumed that was normal behaviour if you set a series recording. I've had loads of repeats being recorded e.g. the same episode of Electric Dreams was broadcast on consecutive nights last week and I got both. It's a pain but I assumed their was no way for the machine to know that it had already recorded something and not record it again. Even if it was smart enough to look through the HD and see what was there before deciding whether to record or not it wouldn't help if you had watched the item and deleted it.

Its not normal. Each series link episode has two codes the first is a series crid code which should be the same for every episode and a porgramme crid that should be different for each new episode and remain the same for repeats. After a scheduled series recording has taken place the stb looks for a later programme with the same crid and a different prog crid. When and if it finds one it updates the scheduled recordings to reflect the next episode. If it can't currently find one in the current epg it keeps looking for up to 13 weeks leaving the last recording in the schedule list.

Well Graham I'm sure you're correct and I fully understand the explanation you have given but it doesn't explain why I have just had 2 identical episodes of Electric Dreams does it. I've had the same situation loads of times. In fact it is a real pain because there is nothing in the media list to say which episode it is. It is only by selecting each entry and presing the "i" button that you see which episode it is.

Incidentially I have 2 HDRs at different locations and I'm pretty sure the are both doing this. What am I doing wrong ?

It's because the broadcaster has listed the repeated episodes with different program IDs, as graham says.

There's nothing you can do, it's the broadcaster's fault.

OK I thought it was another "feature" of the HDR. Maybe it'll get sorted someday.

This is odd, I have Benidorm successfully on SL, with no repeats. Do you use Auto or padding?

What channel, day, time is Electric Dreams on?

I haven't had a problem with Benidorm.

Electric Dreams episode 2/3 was on BBC4 numerous times last week. I have it on 08/10 at 20.01 and I think the duplicate that I deleted was on the previous day. Interestingly I recorded episode 3/3 in the early hours of this morning and it hasn't created a folder for them - they are both just files.

I know, but the OP did.

Looking at the repeats of Ep 3/3 left on BBC4, there is no Series CRID, just a Prog CRID.

I can't look at CRIDs retrospectively, but I would guess that if it ever did have a Series CRID, then the BBC cocked it up and flagged each repeat with a different Prog CRID (which is incorrect) causing the repeats to be recorded.

Then the BBC removed the series CRID, and this is why they don't record to a folder.

This behaviour is not unknown by the BBC, especially outside of their mainstream BBC1/2 channels. On some occasions, the BBC will only put a Series CRID on, no Prog CRID, and this causes havoc, totally unpredictable behaviour.

Rgds.

Same as me, then, and I don't get repeats of Benidorm.

Another house/family member trying to ensure you get the programmes recorded?

If not, it's unexplained. I'd delete all references to it in your Schedule, and set it again from ITV1.

BTW, thanks for answering the question.

Thanks for the explanation Les. I use Auto and the other half doesn't set things to record so we don't have that problem. I'm sure the broadcasters will get used to the system eventually, until then we'll have to put up with it. It's not a major problem.
