Wow. Just listening to some of my "Cure" collection again, after not hearing them for a while....and fecking WOW all all I can say!

Sounded good when I was a teen, still sounds good now I'm nearly 40!!!

Eat your heart out Westlife. I'd like to see if you're still going after over 25yrs!

If you've never listened to The Cure, listen to "Faith" first. Absolutly smeggin brilliant.

Don't really know them, except for "Love Cats".

They do seem to have become fashionable recently, probably due to the 80s revival thing that seems to be going on at the moment.

yup - loved the cure as well when i was younger - perhaps predictably, but probably because i was about 14 at the time, the first cure album i bought was *the head on the door*, and so is still my favourite of theirs.

saw them live years ago, and am looking forward to seeing them again at this year's glastonbury.

sure, a lot of the stuff was a bit gloomy, but lurking in there were some of pop's greatest ever tunes.

i see they've just released a cd set of a lot of their early and rare stuff, including a lot of b-sides - perhaps for the collectors, but a lot of the b-sides from the *standing on a beach* compilation were pretty good - i always remember the full blown fanfare that was *a few hours after this*.

i'm planning on copying all my vinyl to cd in the near future, so hopefully will be having a great old nostalgic time!

Don't think I'll be getting any of their stuff. I saw them on an awards show last year and after seeing a few clips of their stuff they did seem to be a bit weird.

Get there greatest hits as a start of point and then move on to albums like disintergration (1989) which is a gloomy affair.

Marillion fan, if you've only heard a couple of singles, you haven't scratched the surface of one of the greatest ROCK groups this country has ever produced. They put a body of work together in the 80s that was head and shoulders above any other British band IMO. Try "The Head On The Door", "Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me" or "Concert", their first live album.

Like I said, I'd rather not go there.

I prefer their less poppy stuff, which people who haven't heard the albums just don't realise is out there. "Primary", "The Blood", "The Kiss", "A Short-term Effect" and "Fascination Street" are tremendous.

I don't blame you for your Marillion comments. Misplaced Childhood is a bit of a mess IMHO (far from their best), and I for one would hate to like the same music as my Dad. That would be terrible!

I do like a lot of the stuff my dad likes, but not marrilion cuz i'm not into prog--rock cuz it's too technical for me.

That's funny, because a lot of prog rock fans don't like Marillion because they consider them too mainstream and uncomplicated.

Kayleigh is about as straight forward as rock songs get.

So the Cure, they aren't very technical then?

Yeh i have kayleigh on the my 1985 cd which i put together.
The cure are pretty dramatic really and not that techincal, on disintergration you have to pay attention or it gets very boring very quickly. There 1992 cd ''wish'' was a bit of rock/pop outing and a kinda sell out. Download ''lullaby'' , a real classic trust me!!!
