There's Your Trouble - Dixie Chicks
Salt Sweat Sugar - Jimmy Eat World

Both bands have encountered political controversy within the Bush presidential reign; the former for their remarks in the run-up to the Iraq invasion, and JEW had to change the title of their album 'Bleed America' to an eponymous title in the aftermath of 9/11

Salt Sweat Sugar - Salt Sweat Sugar - Jimmy Eat World
The Ghost of Tom Joad - Bruce Springsteen

The song "Goodbye Sky Harbor" by Jimmy Eat World (on album Clarity) is based on the John Irving novel, A Prayer for Owen Meany.
"The Ghost of Tom Joad" by Bruce Springsteen is about The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck.

Meat is Murder - the Smiths

'A ghost' and 'some meat' are both things Lady Gaga has dressed up as.

I think that goes for a lot of Lee Perry dubs. He liked to use one of those mooing cow toys.

Favorite Dish - Lee Perry
In The Closet - Michael Jackson

Lee Perry famously burnt down his Black Ark recording studio after walking backwards for three days tapping the ground with a hammer.
In The Closet was (I hope) recorded at Teddy Riley's Future Recordings Studio in Virginia Beach, VA which was also destroyed, this time following an electrical fire.

Now I Know What Made Otis Blue - Paul Young
Marvin - Chris Rea

Marvin Gaye and Otis Redding were lampooned in The Smell Of Reeves And Mortimer. Marvin gradually became increasingly more bored as the series progressed, wanting to go "down the Grapevine to have a drink"

Puff the Magic Dragon - Peter 'Powell' and Mary
Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds - the Beatles

Both songs falsely rumoured to be about drugs- Marijuana and LSD respectively. Interestingly, the character 'Mary Jane' in the first song was common mid-century slang for cannabis, and 'Lucy' became a street name for acid due to the Beatles song.

One Day At A Time - Lena Martell
Kiss Me - Stephen "Tin Tin" Duffy

Tenuous link of the day: Martell's real name is Helen Thomson and there is a supporting character named Thomson (of ... "& Thompson" fame) in Hergé's Adventures Of Tintin
