They are charging for free text messages, i bought my phone stating that the text was free now they are charging me when they advertise free text messaging.
Does any one know what is going on?

is that pay as you go?

If so you have to top it up with at least £10 every month if i remember correctly.

It is pay as you go, have several phones with friends all with the same problems, they topped up within the last month, yesterday some of them were charging 10p a message.

The is a limit to the amount of free text messages you can send a month with the genie service. I can't remember how many it is though. You best check with Genie to see how many it is.

If true, isnt this another classic example of a company advertising Unlimited usage of "X" ?

They did it with internet, and banned people who used their "unmetered" service too much, now it seems as though with messages! psh!

Allthough, i expect its just a cock up @ Genie, so phone them and get ur 10p's back!

With the phone i have it flashes up the ammount of credit you have left after each time you send a txt message, which although is annoying can be helpful if gneie suddenyl charge me

Guybrush, have you yet to be charged yet, after talking to them the limit is 1000 a month at the moment.
So beware.

I seem to remeber reading on their website a while back that they defined reasonable personal usage as about 1,500 messages a month, although that has now gone and it now just says reasonable personal usage as defined by them. Something of a catchall eh?

I'm considering getting a genie contract (£10/mo, keep existing phone) - anyone got any horror stories?

Mark

Hey peeps ,

they are only charging you if they notice any sudden rise in text message quantity, or so im told , so if you send about the same each month they dont get wise.

as for the genie contracts , i have 3 and know of people with one too , i have never been charged for texts yet and i think that they will target pay as you go first.

I only have one horror story regarding genie , while in spain my phone was stolen and £130 or calls were made to mainland spain , before we could block it. Not knowing the contact numbers for genie made things worse ! but genie say its our problem , even though my 12 yr old sister dont have any friends in spain

in general , its cool

laterz peeps
