How come we never get any decent male singers on X Factor?

The boys on idol are just so much better than on x factor..

I think adam is technically maybe the best singer of our generation...his range is up there with Jeff Buckley, and that saying something .

Completely agree. X Factor may have insane production values but the cheesy fake karaoke backing tracks let it down I think.

Oh, that and Brian's crazy-ass 'choreography'. Random women leaping on Lloyd and a some sort of hurricane simulator for Lucie, what WAS he thinking?

Oh god....his "choreography" may be some of the worst around..

Imo both him and the stylist need to go...

They stylist should be shot at dawn! the get ups last week made me cringe what on earth did Rikki and Ollie look like, something out of an OLD comedy film!

And of course, they forgot that Kandy Rain are not an 'established' act and therefore are legally obliged to 'dress demure'!

IMO X Factor need to sack Brian, the entire hair and makeup department, all the stylists, and hire GOK WAN.

(they can also sack a few of the finalists while they're at it)

I couldn’t believe Michael Johns went out in 8th place. This wasn’t his best performance of his brief run but even so.

However, surely the best version of Dream On ever on Idol is this one. Sadly there is no performance but that isn’t a bad thing, it allows for the vocals to be totally appreciated, particularly the last 10 seconds or so

and here are those last seconds in all their glory

I'd say not just technically and no maybe about it. He can deliver the sensitivity of Jeff Buckley and the rawness of Robert Plant but his range is up there with Roy Orbison, if not beyond. He claims his range is about four octaves but I’d say he’s being modest (just like he claims to be 6’1” ……………. that would make me about 4’10” and I'm not!) . He can sing every note on a guitar, from lowest to highest. I have to say watching and hearing him sing and perform almost every night over the course of two months on and off has to go down as one of the biggest privileges of my professional life so far. It was the first of these tours that I haven’t got bored with halfway through and that I didn’t find myself looking forward to my breaks from it.

It’s a shame he’s such an unpleasant, anti-social, arrogant twonk …………………………. only joking he’s an absolute sweetheart.

I loved Austin too. Rhydian was awesome, and I'm not even a fan of operatic singing.

I think it mainly comes down to experience. Most of the contestants that turn out to be really good on X Factor and BGT are already very experienced singers and have worked in the industry, Rhydian, Austin and Adam are good examples of that.

Some of the X Factor male acts have a good voice and some talent (Austin), but I think that what's missing the most is personality, presence, and a strong artistic identity with very few exceptions (Rhydian comes to my mind)
Loads of pretty boys and some good voices but that's as far as it goes.
This year, I believe that Simon would like a male winner, but I struggle to see one with star quality.
I don't know why this is. Even is the talent pool is smaller compared to AI, they could find someone occasionally.
May be it is the producers choice, they only like puppets, or the total lack of artistic expression on the X Factor puts off the best.
But we'll see this year. We'll get the unavoidable act that is growing during the show, so may be there is a little gem hidden somewhere.

You can count the relatively inexperienced finalists on any of these shows on the fingers of one hand. When it comes down to it, the producers are not willing to put the live shows in the hands of a bunch of complete amateurs.

To be fair, Leon is probably the most inexperienced winner of all and one of the most inexperienced contestants (and I'm going all the way back to Will Young, Kelly Clarkson and even those who made up Hear'Say) and look how that turned out for him unfortunately.

It's ALWAYS whining crooner boy-band types that get through, never any variation - where are all the decent British male voices with a bit of grit to them?? Seriously, all we get are the substandard, greasy-fringed 90s throwbacks who've just hit puberty, there hasn't been any slightly more powerful male voices since Ben back in Leona's series.

Ugh. Sorry, it annoys me - there's so many great female singers every year so where are all the men??

Rant over.... ”

I know Rhydian has already been pointed out by several people. But aside from Rhydian I think the British Public pretty much get given the complete tosh they deserve given their voting record....

Namely, talentless "pretty boys" who can barely sing a note.

Considering the British Public only get to see what they want us to see, most of the time we're limited for choice anyway.

Looking back at all the auditions shows, how many serious contenders did we see on any given week? Probably 3 at the most and I don't believe for an instant that these were the cream of the talent from the thousands that entered.

Because the judges only want to put pretty boy types out there. It's a pop star they want. Not a great singer.

EXACTLY. Out of the supposed thousands that entered and were seen by producers/researchers etc, are the final 12 REALLY the best out there? I mean, REALLY?

I swear there are bigger ranges of singing talent at a primary school concert, and that really is saying something.

Doubtful there are many singers with a bigger range.
Chris Cornell has a 4 octave range.

Everyone I know thinks danyl is amazing then I come on here and there is just hate for him. Thank god only a very small population of X factor viewers post on here!

Danyl is amazing and regardless what people think of him you can't take away his voice!

So there!

I like some of X Factors guys this year but OP, I agree.
Chris Daughtry
Adam Lambert
David Cook
Bo Brice

Some have come close but none are as good. I think they are out there somewhere....just not sure where.

Yes, I adore Danyl. I really hope he goes far. But he is no Adam Lambert, Chris Daughtry or David Cook.

But to that I would add ...yet.

He has the potential I think. If he gets the chance. I am not convinced that winning the X Factor is the best thing for him. I would prefer runner up or 3rd. Then he can do his own thing.

If people think Danyl is amazing, no wonder the standard is so low!

As previously noted, Rhydian was an absolute legend, Austin and Andy were both very good and Ben was okay. Did people really consider Leon a 'pretty boy'? (He certainly couldn't sing a note. I'm still upset about that result.)

My favourite male singer from The X Factor has to be Rhydian because he has a phenomenal voice and real stage presence; and my favourite male singers from American Idol are Clay Aiken and David Cook because they both have incredible voices and they made every song they sang on their respective seasons their own unique versions, which I love about them.

Nah, he's like Rikki. Not particularly attractive and not much of singer either
