I am looking to buy a CD/MD deck. It has to be silver to go with my sony amp (STR-DB1070). My budget is about £500.

I have looked at the following but can't find a silver model:

Sony MXDD40
Sony MXD-D5C

Anyone got any opinions of some good CD+MD decks preferably in silver. (it doesn't have to be sony)

Also, has anyone got a multi CD deck like the sony's CDPCX450, if so what do you think of it?

cheers.

I have these two and can comment on them, they aren't a CD/MD combo:

I have the Sony MDSJB940 MD deck at about £300 ish (in silver)...Solid construction like a brick poop house, tons of features and sockets that you'd be hard pressed to use up. It has 2 optical inputs, one coaxial input, 1 coaxial output and 1 optical output. Gold plated analogues RCA sockets. Sound quality is most excellent, you can do so much with it. The MDSJ770 is almost the same minus a few minor things (less digital sockets) but it looks pretty good and is cheaper.

I was going to buy a CD player but got a DVD instead, so it does audio CD and DVD all in one. its the discontinued Sony 335 model. Go for the revised NS300 which plays home made CDr recordings. The build is top notch again. the one minus point is it won't easily do Region 1...

Some things to think about a CD/MD combo.... usually you get less editing options, sockets or features with an all in one combo. Do check on this before buying...it may be limited on it's digital connectivity seeing as it has less need for digital inputs and outputs being a combo. If one part fails you lose the lot. CD players are so cheap to buy it would make sense to get a decent MD and a basic good brand CD. This is no problem for your sort of budget.
