Sony HXD710 replacement disc.

Has anybody replaced the HD on the 710 (or 910)?

I tried a WD 320GB and the box did not recognize the disc, so had to replace the original.

Was it because of the increased capacity that I was unable to format, or do Sony boxes need a special function that is not easily available?

The symptoms I have is the box stops recording from time to time, showing "Dirty Disc", when using the HD. Recordings can show 1hr, but the box pauses on play back after say 23 mins.

You are going to have to source a new PATA 160 Gb HDD, as you cannot instally larger disks than the originals in these devices.

Once you have the replacement disk, this thread from 2007 should be helpful to you, as it explains how to format the new disk. It would seem you need to also connect a cable to line 2 video out in order to see the menu (quite why you cannot see this via the main SCART outpot is beyond me).

Good luck. Please let me know how you get on.

Many thanks, just the info I needed. It seems that the Humax (easy) method is one of the few things going for it at the moment.

A new drive is on its way.

Cheers.
