Very pleased with my Humax HDR, just need a firmware update to fix the green screen HDMI handshake issues with my Sony W2000 and i'll be a happy man. Also being able to delete or flag deletion when recording would be nice.

......A small TV screen on the EPG might be a nice addition as well.
There's no mention of any changes to the hdmi implementation in the list of fixed bugs. Have you asked Sony if there's a TV firmware update ?

How would an update to the HDR add the channels you desire which are only available on Sky?
If Ofcom get their way and Sky have to resell their channels individually then there is a chance that the update will enable such channels to be viewed on a Freesat box. This is because the "iplayer" streaming functionality is apparently not tied to just streaming from the BBC but from any company (or individual) who offers up an MHEG app on their web server and a compliant video stream.

Humax rep has said that in theory the video source could be a PC in your house, so could use HDR as a frontend for your DVD collection .... in theory.

As it works fine with my PS3,Bush HD box and panasonic DVD via hdmi it must be the Humax causing the issues rather than the TV. I have also seen others with the same issues using different tv's. I'll install the Humax firmware when available and take it from there.

For Your Information: I wanted to know if it had BBC I player.
But if you had already decided that you could not live without Sky and were going to mothball the HDR why would you care if it had iplayer?

But you explicitly said it was going into the loft.

Or do you sneak up there to watch Freesat in case the bogey man reports you to Sky for watching a Freesat box?

i am seriously considering dumping my sky+HD box for freesat, my reservations are:

Loss of C4HD

Paying £230 for something I already have (if I go down to £10 a month for the Sky+ it still offers more channels than freesatHD and it would take almost 2yrs to have cost the same)

A 2nd Gen box might come out for freesat+HD that doesnt have the bugs and offers more than the Humax one

I might wait for a few months to see what happens, anyone know if something new is coming? C4HD gonna be available of freesat anytime soon?

Finally, my AOL contract runs out in Jan, Sky seem to offer a good broadand package with not as many limits as others...any better offers out there?

Why? There's hardly any HD on there anyway. It seems to be 90% upscaled from what I can tell.

There's a new Humax coming next year. Possibly early next year. I'm probably going to buy it to replace/supplement my aging and unreliable 9200.

As long as your exchange has been unbundled by Sky. Otherwise avoid the service with a bargepole.

thanks thats very helpful advice. i'll wait until the next gen then...just need so find a good but cheap isp now and ill be ready to jump next year. C4HD is getting some more HD progs, but yes its limited, but even upscalled SD is better if its done at souce with the 270MB/s SDI source rather than the 5MB/s reception...
