I find that apart from myself, my mum and my Nanna Im the only person I know of who watches Strictly. Ive even had the piss taken out of me before now for wacthing it and told its for old people so I kind of keep quiet about it now...

I watch the X Factor as well and I find people are so much more ready to talk about that. I hear people talking about it all the time, on the bus, in the street, in Starbucks. Its just a total water cooler show that everyone seems to talk about and you'd be out of the loop a bit if you didnt watch. A bit like the soaps were once upon a time. I never hear people talking about Strictly in the same way, and it annoys me as I'd love to talk about Saturdays show on Monday morning, but no one has wacthed. Either that or they are not admitting to it like me?

Maybe Im just moving in the wrong circles? lol Im kind of glad I have found this forum now! Anyone else find the same?

I know what you mean. I'm a straight male and love SCD. It's a guilty pleasure and I don't discuss with anyone bar my wife.

X-Factor? I've seen it before. I've seen next years and the one after that. Same people singing the same old songs. Doesn't entertain me the way Strictly does!

I think you're moving in the wrong circles! My Saturdays consist of discussing the show whilst it's on (via text) with two friends, I catch up with my mum's thoughts on a Sunday, and Monday mornings is all about Strictly in our office.

It may help there that there are only 4 girls, and about 80 guys, so we just leave them to it and catch up over coffee for an hour!

I also talk to probably four or five other people about it in the course of a week. These are all people who watch and are interested. I don't count the ones who wish to mock (my OH mostly!). I don't watch TXF but I do know people who do, I just tune out the conversation.

I just watch the X Factor for the car crash element. Its pure tripe of course and most of the singers are rubbish. But occasionally you see bona fide stars like Leona Lewis and Rhydian.

Not sure anyone fits that mould this year though

SCD is my guilty pleasure too. A bit like very cheesy bubblegum pop music from the 80's and 90's

Ah, maybe it's me that moves in the wrong circles. For us, cheesy 80s pop is not a guilty pleasure, it's a necessity!

It's strange! My whole family love it and my sister's friends do too (mid - late 20s) but none of my friends do! We're all late teens. I'm embarrassed to turn down a night out because of it so I'm usually "sick".

Im glad its not just me. Its not even a question of old and young. My Auntie is 60 and thinks Strictly is sad and is all X Factor. But then she is very young at heart and is also obsessed with Hollyoaks and thinks its the best soap on telly so who knows?

I dont know anyone who watches.

I think my elderly parents and siblings have all been been coerced by my teenage nieces to watch the other side. Or maybe because the X-Factor series starts a little earlier in the year it gets the edge with my family.

What's particularly strange is, I remember my mother finally persuading my father to invest in a colour tv so she could see the Come Dancing gowns in their full colour glory - needless to say as I child I found CD a huge yawn. How the tables have turned

My mum is boycotting this year's series in protest at the treatment of Arlene, so she's no good to me any more.

My work colleague (what is a mate of Zoe Lucker's) is watching every weekend, often with members of Zoe's family, so I'm getting a bit of an insider view at present!

I'm slowly getting my folks into Strictly. They even voted for the first time last weekend.

A lot of my girlfriends watch the show (we rarely support the same couples so there are plenty of 'lively' discussions to be had!), but only one of my male friends is into it and he's gay.

I do know people that watch Strictly, but the kind that say "oh what a shame that tennis player went out last week". So I just nod and walk on rather than bitting their head off for blantent Strictly ignorance .

My mum. My grandma. That's it. It's OK though, that's why DS is here!

I'm 25 so not a grey haired old lady here . I think it depends what circles you mix in. I was at a dance rehearsal last night and I wanted to make a reference to something I'd seen on Saturday's show so I said "Did anyone see Strictly on Saturday?" - not one person said no and as a lot of my friends are people I've danced or performed with almost everyone I'm friends with watches it. My Gran on the other hand is 91 and hates it. Her main complaint being that there "is too much dancing in it" and she "doesn't like all that gyrating" (aka Latin ). My Mum also finds SCD boring although she likes latin and american and ballroom dancing and would happily go and watch the Dance Festivals and would like to give sequence dancing a go. I think she'd just rather watch all professionals or pro dancers and celebs who are really good like Rachel Stevens and Tom Chambers last year. But yes, more people I'm friends with and work with watch it than don't.

My fiance and I are the only people who I know who watch Strictly. My sister and my friends at work all watch X Factor instead and everyone else I know has a life and actually goes out on a Saturday night (weirdos!)

xx
