In the current series of DwtS I have notice the increase in props placed around the floor during a celebs routines.

I understand why such things are done for guest singers and such, but putting out oil burners for a Samba that wasn't even any good, just shouts out pointless IMO.

Kelly's Viennese Waltz had candles aswell, and another Viennese Waltz that night had to lighting altered dramatically so that the whole room was pitch black with just a few white lights on them to go with the music. Found it all a bit distracting actually, and moves away from it being a dancing show more and more.

The muppets appearance the other week made me laugh however .

I'm not sure the props are really anything new. Lacey and Lance had a bench in their rumba, and of course there was the infamous unicycle paso.

I think candles/lighting are much less of an issue (and not unheard of on Strictly - Austin's paso?) than props which become part of the dance - they are being used to set the scene and the mood rather than anything else, aren't they?

Do the pros have much input into lighting/effects etc?

on DWTS. It's so much more fun to watch and a hell of a lot more glamorous than SCD.

I much prefer it. Donny's Charleston was brilliant. He's such a handsome man now. And Mya rocks

Adam knew he was going out and the unicycle was his only talent, so he insisted on bringing it in for comedy. It's never been forgotten and it was funny.

Not sure these were real oil burners ... they are often used on stage or at discos/clubs etc., and are made 'contraptions' consisting of very clever lighting and a fan blowing onto fabric. They can be extremely realistic looking, but are quite safe.

Whether they were appropriate for the samba, is just a matter of taste, I guess. They didn't bother me, but agree they didn't add anything to the routine either.

There were a few more this week aswell!

Chairs, fairy lights over the dance floor, lamposts, chairs and tables. There is dancing in there somewhere, I think.

Someone had an umbrella in VW a couple of seasons ago, can't remember her name, she was a skater and I think she won that series.

It got the typical 'all that mucking about' comment from Len.

Oh that was Kristi Yamaguchi (how ever you spell it ).

They were by far the best couple aswell that series so I don't know why they thought they needed a prop.

I don't like all the propage. It's tacky and ruins perfectly good dances.

I don't mind props if they added something to the dance but they rarely do and are usually just there to waste time.

The examples of time wasting/ pointless props was Derek and Shannon's cha cha (i think) to shut up and drive with the car keys!! and mya dusting the judges desk for ages

The props aren't needed, especially when the dancer is good. Mya and the feather duster being one example.
Although I loved Derek swinging in from a vine and Lacey emerging from the smoke - what a way to make an entrance!

Also I hate it when the dancers use the judges table to jump up on and that includes the pro dances. It usually ends up with Len having some part of the dancers anatomy shoved in his face and I don't want to see that!
